Highly significant Tritium nerf still in effect

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:04 AM PDT

Carrier-based exploration expeditions, such as those being run to set up the DSSA (Deep Space Support Arrays), have had a rough month. For example, Mercy of Angel, the carrier assigned to bring home participants in the original first wave of deployments has been marooned up near Beagle's Point for several weeks after Tritium was all but removed from Tritium hotspots.

But there had been light at the end of the tunnel. FDev had assured us that changes to Tritium had been accidental and all would be returned to normal:

We'd like to make it clear that any negative impact on locating and mining Tritium is unintentional and the intention is for Tritium to remain as accessible as it was prior to Patch 3.

Unfortunately, after Patch 4, Tritium is definitely not as accessible as prior to Patch 3. This thread from the DSSA Director outlines the specifics, but the headline figure is that the effectiveness at the tested Tri3 overlap is down 54%. It currently performs a lot worse than the old Tri2. Tri2 overlaps are also significantly underperforming against pre-Patch 3 levels.

There are two issues here. One is that if these changes are intentional, communication from FDev has been a disaster. On a personal note, I'm involved in launching a twenty-person expedition to Explorer's Anchorage on Thursday hunting for a Tri3 overlap, based on the explicit assurance (quoted above) that Tritium was being returned to normal and that the nerf had been unintentional. Even if you believe that a Tritium reduction was needed, the simple fact is that FDev have done the very opposite of what they said they would.

The other point is that this is a major hit to carrier deep space exploration. Refuelling at Tri2s and Tri3s was the norm for many planned expeditions or those with scouts aboard. This created a natural partnership between explorers and miners, and crucially, kept tritium mining to a reasonable level. For example, at DSSA Callisto thousands of rings were scanned to find the perfect Tri3 and then a team of about ten miners had been working to fill other passing DSSA carriers on the way to their deployment. This was taking about three to four days, which is reasonable. The 54% nerf extends this to seven to eight days, which to me seems utterly ludicrous.

It should be noted that a vast amount of time has been invested into locating and sharing the location of Tri2s and Tri3s throughout the galaxy. This includes the development of tools like TriPN which attempt to detail, verify and visually reference every Tritium hotspot. Work was also underway to replicate the success of projects like the one at DSSA Callisto, launching massive scouting operations in key areas of space and then deploying planned Deep Space Support Arrays over then, with the plan of eventually creating communities of migrant explorer miners hopping on and off expeditions at key Tri2s and Tri3s around the galaxy.

Right now, these ambitious plans have crashed down around us. If FDev had genuinely wanted to nerf carrier exploration, and had communicated that clearly, then we would have accepted it. I know there are some players who feel that carriers belong in the bubble and not on the frontier and that's a perfectly reasonable belief, but it is not at all what FDev had said. In fact, this nerf appears to be an accidental domino effect of reducing profit from LTD mining.

In that vein, my big concern at the moment is that FDev don't even realise that they've delivered a 50% nerf to tritium mining in overlaps. I reckon they fixed single hotspots and then didn't give anything beyond that a second thought. In which case, I would sincerely ask them to give them a thought now and let us know swiftly what they want to do.

Turning The Wheel is in trouble! Over 100 million in bounties turned in at Anyanwu, yet we lost influence two days in a row. Enemy action? Maybe. More likely the recent influx of new players is the cause. Well intentioned CMDR's are doing counterproductive actions. Playing the BGS requires coordination. Quing system at busy stations

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:58 AM PDT

I just tried docking at Fletner servey in the Ngalin system while playing in open. Now I love the feel of a busy station, and seeing real commanders coming and going gives great immersion to me. But as I waited to get docking clearence, I felt like I couldn't really enjoy the traffic because I had to spam the "docking request" screen to hold my place in the line.

Shouldn't there be some kind of a queing system so that when I requested docking I would be put on hold until there was a free spot, and then automatically invited to dock when it was my turn?

The thing I want most from Odyssey

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:50 PM PDT

I want every station in my cockpit to be occupied by an NPC or in the event of multi-crew a player. I want to feel like my ship is more than just me.

I would prefer they'd be hireable trainable and all that crap, but honestly I would be happy with a simple NPC.
