Despite having done these rescues dozens of times, I still get goosebumps every time.

    Leave no escape pod behind.

It it just me or Oddysey cockpits went from too dark to too bright since release? This is in pitch black space. Hud visibility is the same. Horizons does much better job here in my opinion.

I'm coming back to elite after 6 months, why can't I play anymore?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2022 06:53 PM PST

New Commander question: Is there any faster way to get to places like this? Or is this why this is a 700K delivery of 9 items?

What to know before going to damaged stations

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 03:39 AM PST

Yesterday 2 stations near Pleiades Nebula were attacked, Gunn Port in Dan system and a station in Nauni system. Now, I know all of you probably want to grind ranks and modular terminals from rescue missions at these locations, but you need to know few things first. On these rescue missions, you're gonna need 3 main things for 2 main tasks.

NOTE: You're gonna need a heat sink or two for both tasks, otherwise don't go there

First task is the simplest one, rescuing people from these stations. Now, I suggest you take your ship (most preferably a medium ship and above) with biggest amount of internal compartments, or just with big compartments (classes 6, 5 and 3) and fill them up with E rated economy class passenger compartments. Do not pick the D rated ones as they have less capacity and going lightweight won't be useful here. Also, do not sacrifice your shield generator for an extra passenger compartment, because there's a lot of debris in the station and something explodes every 30 seconds.

The second task is doing salvage missions, you're gonna need a cargo rack, preferably 64 or 32 in capacity, not less and fill everything else (except the shield generator compartment) with collector limpets. After that, just pick up ALL of the salvage missions (occupied escape pods, damaged escape pods, personal effects and black boxes) besides wreckage components, as they don't spawn that often. I know that picking up all these missions might sound a little crazy, but trust me, if you have at least 32 cargo space, and all limpets, you're gonna fill up your inventory in about 40 seconds or 1 minute.

Another useful thing to know is what factions are there. Well, I must disappoint all the people who are grinding imperial rank to get clipper or cutter, because there's no imperial factions on these two stations, HOWEVER, there is 1 Federation faction in Gunn Port, and this is the only one, because in Nauni system there's no Federation factions.

One last thing is the rewards. If you go to the Gunn Port, first pick the Federation passenger/salvage missions, after that just pick the faction that is in charge of the station and after you do that, just go from the top to the bottom, because higher ranked factions give better rewards. If you're grinding Fed rank, always pick rep as the reward, unless there's no rep, then just pick either credits, engineering materials, or modular terminals as only these things are worth picking. If you're doing these missions for any other factions, just pick money or engineering materials, unless you hang around these systems, then pick rep or influence.

It may seem like rescue missions and salvage missions are boring, but actually they are not. You're gonna get a lot of satisfaction from it, especially if you're grinding Fed rank, I myself have rescued already hundreds of people from that station with my trusty AspX and my Fed rank is probably 3 levels higher than it was before.

Good luck commanders, and I'll see you at Gunn Port.

Heads up! A new planet orbiting Proxima Centauri has been discovered by the European Southern Observatory. Commanders, meet Proxima c.

Heads up! A new planet orbiting Proxima Centauri has been discovered by the European Southern Observatory. Commanders, meet Proxima c.

Sorry, its name is Proxima d (I messed up the title). It has less than half the mass of Venus, and it orbits Proxima Centauri in 5.12 days, at 0.029 AU. As they write it is more than 10 times closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun. Here is the link to their announcement on Twitter:

Considering the fact that in Elite Proxima only has Eden, but in real world we know about three planets now, I wonder if it is possible to amend retroactively in-game Proxima? Since this is the closest star to our Sun, it has astronomical significance, isn't it?

NPCs should use elevators and Apex shuttles

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 04:43 AM PST

I think having NPCs use Apex shuttles and Elevators would add a nice sense of life in Elite, seeing the difference between a busy and quiet station and settlement.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to implement.

What other ways do you think could make Elite feel more alive from an NPC side of things?

don't you think that fighter crew have very favourable working conditions (0 risk job of controlling remote controlled fighter earns them billions and they get their payment even if they just chill at station Lounge)

Sounds of Polaris and Barnard's loop

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 03:20 AM PST

Polaris is one of permit locked systems for future content and while you're looking directly at it you can hear a strange noise. Which is not something you can hear while looking at other stars I firmly believe.

But today I noticed the exact same sound playing while looking at Barnard's loop when I was taking screenshots of cockpit lighting between Oddysey and Horizons which is for the most part also permit locked and speculated to be inhabited my Thargoids.

Just some food for though and speculations.

This is the story of a bobblehead named "Wilson"

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 12:13 AM PST

Wilson and I got along for a very long time. He was there when my pilot's wife died. He was there when he sold his home for a beat-up old sidewinder. He was there when I upgraded to an Asp Explorer. He was there when he told me I shouldn't fly into the medium difficulty combat zone. He was there when I told him he worries too much and maybe he should just be a bobble head and let me pilot MY OWN DAMN SHIP.

But then my cockpit window blew out and as I watched Wilson drift helplessly into space, I attempted to abandon the fight and deploy my cargo scoop. But the MIG was still on my tail, and he wouldn't let up. Desperately I cried out, "I'm SORRY Wilson! I'M SO-RR-RRY!!!".... I even begged for him to "come back WILSON....I'm SORRRRRRY"....

But he drifted further and further away as my ship imploded and I woke up in a hospital.
But the memory of my bobble head will never fade away.
