Fleet Carriers.. the spam of the system map and nav panel..

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 01:49 PM PDT

I know FCs can be filtered out of the Nav Panel, and thank god because few things annoy me more than jumping in to a system, looking at my panel to select my destination, and having what feels like a hundred FC's clogging it up. But I feel like the System Maps should be able to filter them out as well. I know this game is not short on gorgeous views and the system map is certainly not at the top of the list.. but I feel like when I view a system map and it's distorted by lines of FCs a dozen long going in eight different directions, it just throws off the point of trying to view the systems bodies in a linear way.

This is a rant based post so take it as you will.

What if Raxxla is just an urban, or rather, a galactic myth, and Fdev has just been fueling the fire all this time, pulling off the biggest gaming prank ever?

    obligatory text, for no reason.

Should we organize to search for Raxxla? Some info about it.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 02:40 PM PDT

I will try to highlight certain parts of the text to make some sort of lazy TLDR.

First of all, for players that don't know what Raxxla is:

Raxxla is a legend from the Elite ingame lore. A legend that has been circulating among spacers in one form or another for centuries. While there is little consistency among the various tales about Raxxla, the earliest stories about it agree that Raxxla is a definite place that holds a mysterious secret. Raxxla is said to hold an alien artefact called the Omphalos Rift, which acts as a gateway to parallel universes. Supposedly, no one found it yet, or at least, they didn't talk about it. Some say that it has actually been found by a small group or even a single individual and they're keeping all that power to themselves.

Now let's talk about it in-game

FDev has said that they won't give clues, but they actually gave some. The basic clues tell us that the thing is in the game.

In September 2015, Drew Wagar - one of the official writers for Elite Dangerous - stated "I spoke to David Braben directly in 2014 and he confirmed to me that 'It's out there and we (FD) know where it is.' – So it does exist." Michael Brookes said "There will be no clues."

In March 2019, Drew Wagar reaffirmed that he had been told by Michael Brooks in no uncertain terms that Raxxla is indeed in the game, and that the developers know exactly where it is.

Raxxla is in the Milky Way. This was confirmed during DJTruthsayer's lore interview with Michael Brookes.

Question: "Where is Raxxla?" Brookes: "Well it's in the Milky Way, but I can't tell you where it is. It's a journey that everyone has to travel for themselves." Question: "You have said that there will be no clues though?" Brookes: "That's true, but I think you have to make some of it a tiny bit obvious just so people know what they're doing. There's nothing to be revealed at this stage."

I think that's enough to have clear that Raxxla is in the game.

We can assume it's a physical location, since they assured Raxxla is INGAME, if it was some sort of "Raxxla is the friendship we get playing Elite" they wouldn't say it's specifically there, since friendship is not limited to the game itself, and they wouldn't say they know WHERE it is, they would say they know WHAT it is.

We also have to take in account that the first mention to Raxxla is as early as 2296. The first Frame Shift Drives, the travel mechanic we use nowadays, were built in 3270, pretty much 1000 years later than this date.

What we actually had in 2296 was Hyperdrives, and they were slow fucks that needed hours to go from one system to another.

We can assume Raxxla is pretty close to Sol. Drew Wagar, the writer mentioned above, has this personal theory too. But it's not official, just his own theory.

We can also assume finding it will bring something new to the game, maybe a ship, maybe some sort of DLC, who knows.

    Unconfimed information

(or things that FDev supposedly said but were never proven or provided a source)

    • One player once flew in the system where Raxxla is but just passed by. Assuming this is real, probably he was just flying somewhere, probably he wasn't exploring, probably he just didn't know about Raxxla.
    • You can get there with an unmodified Cobra MKIII. Supposedly someone in the lore flew there in one. What can we assume from this? Well... a Cobra MKIII has 11.16 ly jump range. So if this information is true and relevant, the system where Raxxla is can't be more than 11.16 ly away from its closest system.

    What should we do?

If the all theories are true, we could set up some kind of filter and check only systems inside the bubble, with another sistem within 11.16 ly and are not fully explored (otherwise we could just see Raxxla from the map...) and start looking there.

I don't know much about the Elite API but if it was possible to create a list like that, we could organise kinda easily, just divide the systems in packs of 10 and assign those packs to players via a simple Google Calc sheet.

Every player with an assigned pack of systems to survey just goes to each one of them and scans them looking for Raxxla.

If we stick to only confirmed information, we'd have to register the whole fucking milky way so I guess it's better to make some assumptions and start searching based on them.

    Things to take in account

    • While we've assumed Raxxla is a planet, it could be a whole different thing. It could be a black hole. It could be a station. It could be some sort of gateway constructed in the space, without a planet to sit on. If we search for only planets, we might oversight it.
    • Raxxla could be unaccessible currently. It could be locked behind a permit and unlocked in latter DLCs
    • Chances are low since they've mentioned the thing is in-game, but we can't oversight the fact that it could be something like "ThE FrIeNdShiP Of ExPlOriNg ToGeThEr WiTh YoUr CoMrAdEs"
    • We also have to think from a developer perspective. There are quotes mentioning Raxxla being in-game from 2015. Would they code a big impressive event and put incredible things there just to leave it hidden for 5 years? One would assume they'd do something to make us find it faster instead of just not saying anything.

    Questions for FDev

I guess it will be hard to get FDev to respond those, since they said no clues. I guess they don't read Reddit too often either. Anyway, I'd love if they could be crystal clear on a single topic:

Is Raxxla both in-game AND permit unlocked? In other words, can we ACTUALLY find it?

Let me know what do you guys think about this.
