(Spoilers) Summary of Logs and Lore from Coalsack

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 08:34 AM PDT

Edit: Will update as new lore becomes available.

Edit 2: K-Star Listening Post is currently bugged according to community managers on today's stream. Heading off for the night and will add any lore/discoveries in the morning!

I've visited the sites and collected the logs from the SRV and the Geological Survey base in Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 and I want to give an overview on the lore at play here.

The base is dated as 3111, 14 years before the first Thargoid War in 3125 and contains logs from a team of researchers who have found a crashed Thargoid interceptor, similar to the ones in the Pleiades.

These researchers found something in the 'cockpit' of the crash which they promptly pulled out. It seemed relatively inert but produces LOTS of electromagnetic interference. When they tried to seal this object away in a container, it chewed right through it frustrating one of the members of the crew there.

They also refer to the Barnacles that litter the planet as 'stones' after one of the researchers, Dr Murphy became obsessed with them.

The Adamastor 'ghost ship' was sent by a private firm to pick up the object that they found and bring it back. This puts the Adamastor at roughly 195-years-old as the Galnet article says.

When the Adamastor arrives in the system, Sidewinders land and troops clear the base, destroying equipment and the comms relays whilst securing the container which is growing 'noisy'. The Adamastor departs but the soldiers are sent 'flying up, little toy soldiers thrown in the air, pulled up into the lights'.

The man in the audio message, Dr Murphy, that was posted to Twitter, is left alone at one of the 'stones' nearby watching everything unfold.

It seems the Adamastor made it back with whatever it's carrying in that 'environmentally sealed cargo container'.

Also, be warned, the barnacles are active and you can get Thargoids showing up to them!

Update: HIP 69200 1 B has a crashed Sidewinder with logs from the Professor of the research crew set after the Adamastor left the Coalsack Nebula.

It details how the containment they have the 'device' in is barely holding and causing power fluctuations across the Adamastor, after a failed hyperspace drive malfunction, she attempts to escape the ship by stealing a Sidewinder.

What we know about Coalsack so far... !spoilers for the coalsack event within!

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 09:54 AM PDT

NOTE: If you are even REMOTELY interested in finding some of this out on your own, DO NOT READ THIS.

    The happenings so far:

Emissions are detected, translated binary points to the Coalsack Nebula.

After exploring, nothing of note is found until server downtime.

A commander logs back on after having landed on Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3 for the down time to find a host of new signals.

Ghost ship 'Adamastor' appears in Chukchan.

Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3 is found to be the site of the missing science team. Thargoid objects are also discovered there, which are the stones the research team had been referring to.

A Thargoid cyclops is sighted at the site.

Commanders begin plotting course between research site and Chukchan to find potential sites of interest.

A new site is discovered, HIP 69200 1 B. A crashed ship with more information on the Adamastor.

NEW as of a few hours ago: A Listening Post has been found in Synuefe XE-Y C17-7, but is unresponsive.

    The events according to me:

200 years ago, the research team is sent to research some weird shit in the Coalsack nebula.

The research team apparently found and caged a live (unknown to them) Thargoid sample of some sort.

Their company told them to shut up and wait for transport.

    Scientists start going crazy.

Transport megaship Adamastor arrives, collects sample (kills scientists??).

    >! Adamastor departs via hyperdrive.!<

Adamastor suffers malfunctions due to the sample interfering with shit along the way to their base in the Chukchan system, has to drop repeatedly from hyperspace to make repairs.

Fearing the worst is to come, a crew member (edit; the professor!) escapes aboard a sidewinder, possibly in the middle of a jump and ends up in HIP 69200 1 B, crashes.

    ???

Megaship arrives in the Chukchan system completely devoid of crew or lifesigns.

Tugs are able to arrest the Adamastor's motion but unfortunately some damage is done to the cargo and internal systems in the process.

It seems the internal systems were intentionally and thoroughly wiped of data.

What you will find when you go to the origin system, Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3:

    The research settlement.

Logs at the settlement that tell the story.

    A crashed Thargoid ship.

A wrecked SRV and a barnacle growing nearby at an unnamed site, with logs expanding upon the settlement story.

A Thargoid cyclops spawning every time you instance near the unnamed site.

    Thoughts?

    EDIT:

A listening post has been discovered at Synuefe XE-Y C17-7. It is currently unresponsive, we're waiting for more information.

    EDIT 2:

After the livestream it seems there is one final piece of information that hasn't been sussed out yet. CMDRs gather up!

Secrets of the Adamastor (Chukchan local news article)

    Posted: 29 Oct 2020 10:40 AM PDT

This is an article you can find in the news section of any station in Chukchan.

    SECRETS OF THE ADAMASTOR

    29 OCT 3306

A private investigator has uncovered some background to the derelict megaship that recently arrived in this system.

Little is known about the Adamastor, which returned on autopilot after two hundred years with no sign of its crew. But an experienced detective has come out of retirement to tackle this mystery.

Local resident Benjamin Chester, who was a founding member of the renowned Wallglass Investigations Agency, told journalists:

"I convinced the Alliance Salvage Guild to pass on some serial numbers that they discovered inside the Adamastor. Then I started scouring databases, interviewing sources and, well, doing my old job."

"The megaship was owned by a corporation called Azimuth Biochemicals. This was taken over by a similar company called Pharmasapien, but both were liquidated long ago. No mission records exist, but service crew reports mention that the Adamastor's passengers included scientists, engineers and some kind of military."

"Eventually I unearthed a flight plan, logged in October 3111. It plotted a course toward Barnard's Loop with fuel for approximately 370 light years, and was scheduled to pass by the HIP 39748 and HIP 33386 systems."

"I'm way too old to head out there myself, but l hope someone can use this info, and help satisfy my curiosity about what happened all those years ago."

It doesn't look like Odyssey will do anything with installations, but it's one of my biggest hopes for Elite in the long term that I'll be able to land on and explore the inside of these structures.
