PSA: The new planetary generation technology is NOT in the Alpha. Temper your expectations accordingly.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 08:19 AM PDT

During several livestreams since the Alpha launched, the Devs have pointed out that the new iteration of the Stellar Forge planetary generation technology will not be implemented during the Alpha. The alpha's purpose is testing the core mechanics (obviously), not showing off the new planetary tech; that will have to wait for the full release. The graphical overhaul has been implemented, but not all of the new procedural generation tech,

So while we get beautiful views already and while we get to land on new classes of planets in the Alpha and explore canyons and such on foot, we will have to wait until the full release to see beautiful worlds like the ice planet from the combat gameplay preview.

I thought this would be a helpful post as I've seen a lot of people (both here and on the forums) who aren't aware of this and thought the worlds they were landing on were somehow representative of the final product, which it caught me by surprise. Hope this is a helpful clarification!

Here's a source from the forums, courtesy of u/Neqideen: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/odyssey-alpha-update-1-0.568136/

"Planetary Tech, including geometry, will not be final until release. However, players may see coloration changes throughout the Alpha phases."

    Edited for clarity

Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) - A network of Deep Space Fleet Carriers at your service!

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 03:49 AM PDT

    Greetings CMDRs!

After reading what was posted by user ForeverLostCommander, regarding losing one year of exploration data, I couldn't help it and have decided to make a post about the Deep Space Support Array (DSSA), because I think not many explorers out there know we exist.

The DSSA Initiative is a network of Fleet Carriers that are open to all CMDRs out there. These Fleet Carriers have installed RRR (Refuel, Rearm, Repair) and UC (Universal Cartography) modules. Some Fleet Carriers have all modules installed, depending on what they offer.

We exist for a reason, and that reason is to help explorers (CMDRs in general), in their deep space travels, to offer a place for them to rest, have a nice cup of coffee, sell their UC data, use the RRR and continue their travels. We are here to prevent such unfortunate scenarios from happening in the first place.

We have 3 Fleet Carriers sitting in different, fixed locations in each region of the Milky Way, excluding 5 regions. These excluded regions have their own stations such as Colonia Connection Highway stations, the regions surrounding The Bubble (not considered Deep Space) and Formorian Frontier region which is reserved for DW3.

A lot of DSSA Fleet Carriers have been marked as Deep Space Outposts by the GMP, so we are recognised as Points of Interest (PoI).

    How to contact us?
    - FleetComm, in #dssa-initiative channel.
    - FCOC, some DSSA CMDRs have their own channels where you can contact them directly.
    - Frontier Forums, you can also contact us from there.

Where to find information about these DSSA Fleet Carriers and their current location?
    - EDAstro DSSA Map
    - DSSA Network Tracker
    - EDSM GMP POI
    - DSSA Passports (for collecting visitor badges)

I believe that's all of the information available at the moment.

Stay safe out there CMDRs. Explore the unknown and come back to us in one piece. Pay us a visit out there.

    o7.

Are the Thargoids running from a much bigger threat we should all be concerned about?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2021 11:48 AM PDT

    Hello CMDR's,

So years back when the Thargoid "bases" were discovered like the one i have taken shots of at HIP 14909 ( planet 2 A ) i posted this "theory" on the official FDev forums but i thought i would put it to the power of Reddit this time.

Reason being is i just came back to the Thargoid structure here in HIP 14909 to show a friend and every single time I've been here i just cannot unsee what i see and stop thinking what i think.

    My Theory:

If you look at the picture here, this is the Thargoid base in question:
    2 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

If you now look at this image i have highlighted the objects that to me look out of place with the symmetry of "typical" Thargoid petal/flower like patterns in their craft.
    3 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

My Theory is that these are another species, this structure is in fact the Thargoid Titan ( Mothership ) and this is actually a battleground / graveyard. The reason i think this is due to the distinct design choices involved here, the Thargoid structure is a different colour ( more green than black ) and has a clearly different architecture all together. The other objects that were dubbed "space whales" before in the older thread i posted are black and smooth in appearance like they have a blubber-like exterior.

    Here's a closer look: 4 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

If you look at the closer image above i have highlighted the strange objects in red again and the Thargoid structure in yellow. There is again a clear and obvious difference in design choices between the two.

In the following image you can see a clear difference in colour and how the darker more black object sits over the Thargoid structure. 5 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

And again in this image: 6 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

What i think is especially interesting here is the fact that the darker structures have Thargoid weapon / corrosive damage on them with the "Thargoid scavengers" doing whatever they're doing to the damaged areas" See here: 72 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

There are several areas of corrosive damage on the other objects, here's another site they are found at on the object with the scavengers here working too. 82 | Rob_sharpe | Flickr

So, i guess i think it might be possible that the Thargoids are being pushed back into human space from a larger threat to them. I cannot help but remember how the initial Thargoid wave were a little forceful and intimidating but did not fire until provoked. I just feel there is something bigger going on here.

I also wonder if the being in the chamber inside the centre of the Thargid structure is like a pilot from Aliens and the star map above it is its navigation ability/hud and that the "base" is in fact a crashed mothership. We can also see around each structure found so far in the game that areas of it are submerged below the terrain as if its been such a long time since it happened its slowly been consumed by moving material.

Is there something much bigger going on here we're looking straight at but not seeing? I tend to think there is anyway. . A bigger threat that is going unnoticed maybe.

They look biological to me, like the space going species "Tyranids" from the Warhammer universe.

    What does everyone think ?
