Piracy killed my overall ED experience

Piracy killed my overall ED experience

    Aaaarrhh!

    o7 COMMANDERS!

I play ED for quite some time now , more then 1000 hours into the game. I own a carrier and a decent fleet of specialized G5 ships. It went so far that i engineered a cutter exclusively to drill osmium for miningmissions. I am good when doin sensible decisions, investigation and planning.

I did it all the things you can do to earn credits alternately, organized and very efficient. I can say that i dove in almost every activity ED have to offer. There was just ONE thing left do do... PIRACY!

    THE PREPARATION

So i went out to investigate. I did try out LTD SC piracy and learned the ropes pretty fast. Interdict, cripple, bumpstop, loot, sell, repeat. I became very good at it, but i wasnt fully satisfied even when this gameloop was 10 times more skillbased then anything else i did before.

So i went deeper into the rabbithole...

I grabbed a good bottle of rum and smoked a fine cuban cigar and asked myself: What COULD i add to make piracy as immersive as possible for me? Soon i was on the drawingboard. Stealth is an superexiting mechanic people dont use. Pirates are often smugglers, and smugglers use stealth, so i wanted to add that. Also i like to plan my moves ahead, and yeah i also like it when i am preasured by time.

I did found the best possible Navbeacon the game has to offer for my gameplan. Of course not in anarchy system, becouse i want some cops around. Whats a bad guy without the good guys?

After i found the perfect system that made me find a juicy T7/T9 filled with Gold/Silver/Palladium/Tritium/etc in a matter of minutes inside the beacon, i had to figure out how exactly the police response works, how i can use stealth to trick them, and an overall gameplan for my hauls. After that, i had to create the most perfect ship for the job, and holy was it fun to min/max it!

So it was about time to be the bad guy.

    THE HAUL

After lurking in the shadows (relog a few times) i found my first prey. The scan did show 120t palladium,100t of Gold and some Silver. I gently touched my victim a few times with my undersized prismatic shield to expose the engines - not a criminal act, so no cops yet. With the clever use of scanning and circling i made my victim head away from the crowded area, targeted the engines and bursted them down with a mix of FC/HYS Cannons to instantly make him drift into the void with a gentle speed buff thanks to the FC Cannons.

Now the time was preasuring me! The cops would be here soon. I stop my ship till my victim is 2km away, boost like a madman and hit FA off when im just passing under it, pointed at the victim with my nose, moving backwards in a straight line. Now it was time to to switch off my shield and weapons to drop below 15% heat holding a distance of ~3km to the victim. Silent running time, one heatsink later the cops did scan the area. They did look for me but they will never find me. I am one with the cold void...

Im still flying backwards, nose to the victim. After a quick reboot/repair sequence i was back with 1,5 pips on my shield, gently bumpstopping my victim 2 or 3 times to a dead stop. Hatchbreaker and collector limpets delivered the treasure to my cargo hold while im sipping a fine rum in my cockpit.

    Aaaarrhh!

After i left the crimescene with 250t of high value metals and smuggled it into my carrier within the same system just 5ly away from the beacon, my haul was done... 30 minutes from entering the beacon to unloading the cargo...

    THE CONSEQUENCES

You may ask yourself, why is "Piracy killed my overall ED experience" the title of this thread, that little story sound super exiting?!

Well, thats part of the problem. After you managed to master hauls like this, you can never go back to what is lucrative. Youre addicted, hooked, the adrenaline rush and exitement of that kind of activity is unmatched and whenever you go back to whatever you did before you instantly want to hang yourself becouse of brutal boredom.

Passenger Missions, Bulktrading, Tradingmissions, Lasermining, Coremining, Subsurfacemining, Massacremissions and lots more are all 100m/h to 200m/h but you cant stop doin what i wrote above for 500t of "high value loot" worth maybe 20m/h.

Piracy is a hell of a drug, dont touch it!

    You have been warned!

    Aaaarrhh!

Pilots Trade Network (P.T.N.) Booze Cruise... The Bar Tab - 11 May 3307

P.T.N. Booze Cruise The Bar Tab

Calling all those hard working, heavy hauling members of the Pilots Trade Network, thank you for tuning in to today's broadcast, brought to you by P.T.N. News, hosted by Jacque Diamond!

"In the love of.... how flipping loud is that intro, why'd I have my headset on.... ugh... my head... I'm not drinking again! Two damn days it's been since we stopped... two days... ugh... surely someone in Med-bay has something to make me feel human again. Come on I can do this.... Geoff.... Grab me a brew please pal, oh and the cruise stats..."

"Greetings to all you.... you... commanders, out there in the black voids betwixt the... ugh.... Stars. I'm Jacque, as you should know... or something... Sorry, we here at the P.T.N. had one hell of a party over the weekend and needless to say, I'm a little ... sore right now as is probably everyone who went to Rackham's Peak on our Booze Cruise. So I'm going to make this quick, as I sure need a good week to sleep this off."

"Oi Geoff where did you put the stats from the cruise? ... Cheers for the brew"

Jacque takes the cup of tea, holding it just under his face so the smell of the fresh brew and steam waft into his face... making him feel, just a bit more alive. There's nothing that a good cuppa' doesn't sort out.

"Anyway where was I? Ah yes, the numbers! The good old results of a job well done, and a note from Management... What's this? Woah that's some nice camera work there! There's a picture in here too commanders which I'm sure you'll like... Check this out.... "

Jacque hits a few buttons on his console and the following image is sent to your display panel... A glorious shot of Rackham's Peak taken by one CMDR JoRyJuKy on 08 May 3307.

    Rackham's Peak - Image credit to CMDR JoRyJuKy - 08 May 3307

"I don't know about you lot but that one gives me a feeling in the stomach.... either that or I'm remembering just how much wine there was at that place!"

"Right to business! Keep in mind commanders these are only from the details we managed to log, it is probable that there more than this... Insane right!"

Jacque hits a few more buttons and keys up the numbers from the event.

    P.T.N. Carriers & Auxiliary carrier count = 66

Total registered units of wine brought to the party = 1,265,788 units

Approximate total loads via 280 unit capacity Pythons = 4,521

Over 351,889,064,000 credits made between the hard working CMDRs

That's enough profit for the purchase of 70 fleet carriers!

Pilots Trade Network Squadron is now number 1 in trade rank across all platforms

"From everybody here at the Pilots Trade Network, we thank you all so much for getting involved and hope you made a sizeable chunk of credits as well as enjoyed yourselves!"

"Management and Admiral Law have also asked me to present a special message..."

It has been an absolute pleasure and fantastic experience seeing commanders from all over the galaxy join together, cooperate, share and get to know each other in our community. This event was a beast ! We had over 180+ members join Discord since Friday for the Booze Cruise taking us to over 980 CMDRs. This event called for some serious traffic and market management... and wow.... It ran like well oiled machine! We want to thank all the carrier owners who assisted it this, I'm sure the haulers very much appreciated the gargantuan effort.

However although a lot of people poured their love and time into this event, and it would take an age to name all... management has heard one name be hailed as the hero.... Guiding carriers in and out, being the Maestro of the Orchestra, serving up juicy 'boat' loads full of wine and ensuring each ends in a crescendo of credits....

The Pilots Trade Network would like to honour - Vader's Fist, owner of the P.T.N. Executor, for an exceptional job well done. Please join us in thanks to this hero, then we can let him take a well deserved rest!

    Signed P.T.N. Admiral Law.

Jacque leans back in his chair, smiling despite the huge hangover... as he remembers the early days being almost alone in space.... now the P.T.N. is nearly a thousand members strong... Never alone again he thinks...

"That's all from us here at the studio for today, I'll leave you with a few links to some other mentions of the Booze Cruise by others"
