Wow! FDev's latest patch must've optimized the graphics. Look at this scene after landing in a 10 km high crater during local sunset.

New Guardian ruins discovered in the Graea Hypue YE-Y d1-212 / 3 a

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 05:31 AM PDT

We at IGAU, the Intergalactic Astronomical Union squadron, are proud to announce that our survey around the IC 4673 nebula has borne fruit, and we have found undiscovered Guardian ruins in the Graea Hypue YE-Y d1-212 system. The location is the 3 a moon, which features two ruins, and brain trees as well. We've had over a dozen squadron members participate in the survey, and this discovery was made by CMDR Taen (and verified by Cmdr Urania Minora who made First Footfall).

    Here are some screenshots:
    System Info
    Guardian Site - View 1
    Guardian Site - View 2

To recap for everyone: this is the fourth Guardian system discovered to date around the IC 4673 planetary nebula. There is a 100 ly permit lock around the nebula's center star, Hen 2-333, and there is also a brain tree area that goes out to 750 ly from it. However, systems which are still within this distance but in the neighbouring Norma Arm region are excluded from this, and have no brain trees.

Damn this game is not good for newbies.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 04:57 AM PDT

Bought the game a few weeks ago and played through the tutorial. Came back yesterday and forgot eveything. I'm in a random system, with no missions, no objectives, nothing.

My type of game on paper, but seems difficult to grasp.

The first pulsar I come across and I find this

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:01 AM PDT

I've been playing this on and off since it came out and I've finally made Elite Explorer. I've spent at least a year out in the black so that was a happy surprise when I got in. Since just showing the badge is dull I'm including my favorite pictures from my time playing the game.

Just dropped out of hyperspace to this. It’s moments like this that make me appreciate this game even more. So cool.

Hey PC guys how is Odyssey actually?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:06 AM PDT

I'm on Xbox so I can't play it yet and from what I can tell most you tubers hate it and most normal people like it. What are its issues and what's cool about it? Just wondering if I should get excited.

Working on the new ship scale video.... Do i need to add more?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:12 AM PDT

So, since the last ship scale video was from 2019 ( https://youtu.be/hkjWl4nkzCE ) and since I recently got hold of the a fleet carrier from a kind user on here, then found a way to rip the models myself again. While it still works, is there anything I need to add. Please dont suggest ships from other games, this isnt a games v games comparison. But what I've added since the 2019 one includes:-

    All 4 fleet carrier ships

    Nav Beaon

    Coriolis Station

    Asteroid Station

    Generic Outpost

    1 tonne container

    Skimmer

    Bulk Carrier mega ship.

Do I need to add all megaships? All station types? Will that really give us anything more?

Fleet carrier full but I can still sell to it?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 03:41 PM PDT

Is this a bug on my end or can you still sell commodities to a fleet carrier when it is full? I check the carrier overview and it is 100% filled at 25000 units, but when i sell my cargo to it, it still leaves my cargo hold and I get paid? Anyone else had this happen?

    Elite Dangerous Market Connector 5.1.3

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:49 AM PDT

What Is Elite Dangerous Market Connector?

Elite Dangerous Market Connector ("EDMC") is a third-party application for use with Frontier Developments' game "Elite Dangerous". Its purpose is to facilitate supplying certain game data to, and in some cases retrieving it from, a number of websites and other tools.

To do this it utilises the Journal Files written by the game when played on a PC. It also makes use of Frontier's Companion API ("Frontier's CAPI"), accessible once you've authorised this application.

EDMC has a plugin system which many other developers have made use of to extend its functionality.

Find out more on the EDMC Wiki.

NB: This application is of no use with a Console game account. We now test against, and package with Python 3.9.6. As a consequence of this we no longer support Windows 7, due to Python 3.9.x itself not supporting Windows 7.

    Release 5.1.3

    • Attempt to flush any pending EDSM API data when a Journal Shutdown or Fileheader event is seen. After this, the data is dropped. This ensures that, if the user next logs in to a different commander, the data isn't then sent to the wrong EDSM account.

    • Ensure a previous Journal file is fully read/drained before starting processing of a new one. In particular, this ensures properly seeing the end of a continued Journal file when opening the continuation file.

    • New config options, in a new Privacy tab, to hide the current Private Group, or captain of a ship you're multi-crewing on. These usually appear on the Commander line of the main UI, appended after your commander name, with a / between.

    • EDO dockable settlement names with + characters appended will no longer cause 'server lagging' reports.

    • Don't force DEBUG level logging to the plain log file if --trace isn't used to force TRACE level logging. This means logging to the plain log file will once more respect the user-set Log Level, as in the Configuration tab of Settings.

As its name implies, the debug log file will always contain at least DEBUG level logging, or TRACE if forced.

    (Plugin) Developers

    • New EDMarketConnector option --trace-on ... to control if certain TRACE level logging is used or not. This helps keep the noise down whilst being able to have users activate choice bits of logging to help track down bugs.

      See [Contributing.md](Contributing.md#use-the-appropriate-logging-level) for details.

    • Loading of ShipLocker.json content is now tried up to 5 times, 10ms apart, if there is a file loading, or JSON decoding, failure. This should hopefully result in the data being loaded correctly if a race condition with the game client actually writing to and closing the file is encountered.

    • config.get_bool('some_str', default=SomeDefault) will now actually honour that specified default.

    Who Killed Dav's Hope?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 02:33 PM PDT

I was looking for engineering mats at Dav's Hope in Oddesey and found it empty of everthing except the data point and logs. Was that intended? I guess I'll have to go to Site 426 now... unless they nerfed that too... ugh... any ideas?

    Praise for the Cutter

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:27 AM PDT

    Hi there Commanders

There are a lot of videos that present the Cutter as a high-end cargo ship, or a ship you just buy to show you have the money to and it's often portrayed as the least practical of the big three, all of which made me leave it late to trying one out. Since then it's become my favourite all round large ship and I just wanted to share my thoughts so any other cmdrs who were put off might have a look at it.

Combat - The Cutter has obscenely high shields and the fastest speed of any large ship (I get 500 boost on a full combat load out). I'm running a huge gimbal multi and turreted burst laser build with multi slf and there is no PVE situation I haven't been able to handle (and I'm by no means a great combat pilot). The survivability means this is ship where turrets can work, negating the lower turning speeds, and the straight line speed means you can escape and recharge if things get hairy, or get to where the shooting is in CZ or res before your target is blown up. This isn't your dedicated PVP ship but the shield/speed combo means you can tank or outrun any other players you can't defeat in open. I prefer it to the Conda for combat, a turreted conda suffers from having less shields and a gimballed conda feels like a big ship trying to be a medium one with better turning than the cutter but still less TOT to utilise the increased dps. The best thing about combat for me tho is how it feels like true 'big ship combat', managin pips and slf from the bridge, focusing on orientation for the turrets, and the devastating 'buda buda buda' when you've managed to bring the huge multi cannon to round to bear. Really feels like being in a Cutter of old.

Jump range - here's the funny thing, on paper the jump range is considerably less than the conda, but it is much less affected by additional mass, so with a full load out and guardian boost it comes out as roughly the same (38ly) which is plenty enough for anything in and around the bubble. I assume this is because the condos lower mass means that added weight is greater as a percentage, but there will be cmdrs that know more about this than me. Additionally because the shields are so tanky I've never needed hull reinforcement which lowers the weight.

Manoeuvrability - I've found the super cruise turning to be okay. Out of SC with G5 DD thrusters it has a 'big ship feel' but isn't frustrating particularly. The thing that takes some getting used to is the drift, but you get used to this and compensate for it, I drift around to the front of stations now and halt just in front of the slot. The straight line speed is incredible. At lower speeds such as mining, res combat and such drift isn't an issue.

The cargo space/ optional slot utility is well known, and aesthetically it is the pinnacle of Gutemaya design. Trading, haz res mining go without saying as roles this ship can fill. If you can afford it then you already have a dedicated PVP, long range exploration and medium pad mission runner, but as a large daily multi role the cutter is a fine ship.
