This webpage will let you upload your controller bindings file and in turn will make a nice graphic diagram with clear to read mappings for all your controls. It works with many devices, in my case an X56 unit.

Stirring the pot re Open and Gankers

    Posted: 11 Jan 2020 10:01 AM PST

Forgive me if this has been suggested before. I've only been playing for a year.

In another of those monster "who belongs in Open/Open belongs to noone" threads we all hold so dear, someone made a comment about C&P not working properly until there is a "Front Door" on systems with security. That started a new-to-me thought on the subject of what could be done to "fix" C&P.

Obviously, the average Security Forces in the average System and the current Bounty System are not a deterrent to a lot of crimes the way things currently stand.

So, If Systems can be Permit Locked for all the current reasons, why not have the equivalent tied to a Cmdr's criminal standing or their Bounties and Notoriety for a particular type of crime?

Edit: clarity - I'm talking about some sort of a TIMED Lock, not a perma-ban.

    "NO SOL SOUP FOR YOU!"

If Permit Locks were added to C&P, your Nav computer simply wouldn't chart a course through or into the area(s) where you have a bounty. Added to that, with a certain level of Notoriety you can't transfer ships out of that area either.

Please set aside particular crimes and their legitimacy as play styles; can anybody tell me if this has ever been brought up before, and if so what became of it?

If the Pilot's Federation, or whomever, can choose to protect Cmdrs from stumbling into Thargoid space, or protect the inhabitants of Sol from the rest of us, by making it so that we simply can't get there from here with a standard NavComp....

Why not use the same mechanic to protect whomever FDev thinks needs or deserves protection from Cmdrs with big bounties and high notorieties?

It just makes no sense to me why the Permit-lock mechanic is so prevalent in the game's design that FDev has admitted to using it as a way to set areas aside for future development, yet it is never really more than a small inconvenience to any of us.

Let FDev set the Crimes. I'm just advocating that the punishment level provide more of a deterrent than what we currently have.

Is it just that FDev is terribly ban-averse, or am I missing something?

Granted, I'm looking at it through my own personal lens, but if the Empire chooses to ban those who gank in Deciat with some sort of timed Permit-lock on their NavComps, doesn't it follow that there would be a lot fewer gankers in Deciat for at least a while following a crime wave?
