As a Dad and parttime CMDR, and after 2,1k visited systems, 10035ly from Start (10007ly from Sol), in an engineered DBX with a loaded jumprange of 66,95ly, and 4 months of playing/exploring i now can prouldy say to be an Elite Dad Explorer!

Started fiddling with making a 1:1 scale cobra in space engineers. Not sure when It will be done, but I'm happy with hows it's progressing. It's all using large ship grid, so yes it's going to be really blocky to get it even remotely close in profile to what it looks in elite.

    Viper MkIII to Beagle Point

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:21 PM PST

TL;DR – I took a Viper MkIII to Beagle Point, Sagittarius A*, Colonia, and Hutton Orbital as a tribute to those still on patrol in their Viper MkIIIs.

Ship Type: Faulcon deLacy Viper MkIII

    ID: DSV-51

    Name: Lynx

    Build: https://s.orbis.zone/5-gr

From 2019.12.31 to 2020.02.08 I took a Viper MkIII on a journey to some of the more famous remote parts of the galaxy. I dedicate this trip to those who are no longer with us, last seen in their Viper MkIIIs.

I started this trip by picking up 1 ton of Lavian Brandy, 1 ton of Hutton Mugs, and set a course into the black. From the bubble I headed towards Colonia and stopped at Jaques Station. After a brief respite I worked my way to Beagle Point. At the edge of the galaxy, so far from home, I jettisoned my libation. To those we've lost, to those ships still on patrol in the void, Godspeed and enjoy a mug of brandy on me until you find your way back home. After taking a moment of silence I started my way back to the bubble by way of Sag A* with a stopover at Explorer's Anchorage to stretch my legs. I finished up the trip by swinging by "The View" and docking back at Jameson Memorial.

Check out this link for the adventures along the way: https://imgur.com/a/HNAIIHr

Trip Stats: 2239 jumps; 164950.62 LYR.

Godspeed CMDRs, I'll see you out in the black! o7

    The end of days

    The end of days

Ever wondered what the end of days would look like?

    I'll show you.

This is HIP 14769. HIP star 14769 A - carbon star. With 40 solar radius.

view of HIP14769 A from the surface of planet B3

And this is a brown dwarf class L star - HIP14769 B. with three planets. located at 150 ls. from the main star.

    L star - HIP14769 B

But the main star is not at the center of HIP 14769B's orbit. The orbit touches the surface of the star HIP 14769A.

    https://preview.redd.it/qsokx74p6qf41.jpg?width=1680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5452940f24134b21ec6f6a7943eb7b7809eaa3d5

orbit line touches the surface of the star

From the surface of the planets you can see breathtaking views. and possibly the "end of days" of the HIP14769B star system. "In real life"

    In Elite Dangerous .......... :)

    After 27-32 days

    view from planet B1

    view from planet B1

    view from planet B1

    view from planet B1

    view from planet B2

    view from planet B2

    view from planet B3

This is probably how the end of the earth will look. When our sun turns into a red giant and expands to Earth's orbit.

The orbital period of HIP 14769B is 65 days. it seems that the center of the main star also moves and moves in a very small orbit ~ 40-46 ls. in diameter, with the same orbital period 65 days. When HIP 14769B reaches its periapsis it will still be enough for planets to enter the star's gravitational line.

What will happen ? Wait and see!. I will watch at the first row in my SRV.

HIP 14769 is very close to the bubble- 500-600 light years and 300 ly. from Maia

    Good luck Commanders !

Last night at about 1:30utc, the AX conflict zones have been removed from the Taygeta’s system by independent pilots and Anti-xeno authorities. This part of the Pleiades is now a bit safer for civilians. Keep going CMDRs O7

CMDR Glögg's guide to scanning huge rings using gravity assist

CMDR Glögg's guide to scanning huge rings using gravity assist

Per request, here's my attempt at a guide to help you scan the largest rings in the game. I found to my immense joy that gravity assist can be used to great effect on scanner probes to accelerate them far beyond their normal reach. To get to the point, here's the internal document now declassified from Channel Zero's archives:

    1. You have a ridiculously large ring in need of scanning

    large ring found!

    1. You find no way of reaching it with probes

That's a star in the middle, and two planets inside the 4.8 mil km inner ring void

    1. You approach almost level with the rings plane

Forgot to screenshot before scanning it!

    1. Line up close to the star and fire probes so that they JUST miss

Probes away, so close as to almost hit the star

    1. Watch the probes accelerate past the star due to gravity assist

You have unlimited probes, spray and spray again!

    1. Profit!

There were quite a few hotspots but they're too far apart to be shown

I hope this guide is of use to those who want to scan Elite's biggest rings. Safe flying, CMDR's!
