    An Introduction - Vet with PTSD & Elite Dangerous

    Elite Dangerous has an incredibly special place in my life. I have nearly 1000 hours CASUALLY in the game. E:D is part of my PTSD Therapy routine.

    I cannot count on 100s of hands how many times seeing something has given me chills. Jaw-dropping beauty in every system. This game has given me a creative outlet as well as an ability to soak & slow. Soak in the scenery & slow my mind.

    You may have seen some of my posts recently about an unsanctioned expedition that I started about 6 weeks ago. Since then I have travelled over 100,000LY using Elite Dangerous as a therapy. My outlook on life is improving everyday.

    I am a 100% Disabled Combat Veteran of the US Army & I want to share with you the sights & sounds I experience with Elite Dangerous.

    Thank you Frontier, for the unseen and unintended positive side-effects of your mind boggling and beautiful game. I cannot wait for the content planned this year. I've included a few screenshots that I've taken along the way so far:

    I just got Elite and I was looking for the system that apparently had the cheapest lithium according to some website. While I was looking, I saw Sol in the background and decide to search it to go to it in the galaxy map. I looked at Sol, then I looked at Alpha Centari(I've been watching Lost in Space recently, which is I wanted Elite in the first place.)

    and then I zoomed out.

    I saw how close Alpha Centari is(relatively), knowing how far it actually is. And then I saw how big the galaxy is compared to that distance. And I thought about the fact that ours is just ONE galaxy of billions.

    I've known and thought about how vast the universe is for a long time. And I thought I had it. I was like, "yeah, space is big. I get it."

    But I had never SEEN it in this context.

    And I just started crying.

    So I've been working on unlocking engineers, and I made it to the guy who wants a 5000ly journey. I was on my way back and wanted to test out fsd boosting, and found a planet with germanium. I was approaching said planet when I had another idea, which was to finally try out my afm. I had my thrusters at 90%, and decided to repair them, and you can probably see where this is going.

    I crashed into the planet and died. Lost 7000ly worth of FSS and DSS on more than a dozen WW and around 4 ELW and AW.

    So many days worth of gameplay lost.

    Edit: The worst part is that I just tested it and found out I can reboot my thrusters instantly. So tempted to uninstall lmao.

    I just discovered this. It sounds exactly like Elite's FSD Supercruise capability. The FSD bends space/ time around the ship in a, sort of, "time bubble." In fact when you interdict someone the fight that happens between both ships revolves around trying to rip that person out of their bubble and that person trying to align to stay in.

    After travelling 7k LY to the Eagle Nebulae to gaze in wonder at all of the F star clusters, I decided to hop around them to see what's what. To my surprise I found a station in Eagle Sector IR-W d1-105 called Eagle Sector Secure Facility. After around 2 weeks travelling and exploring, it was a relief to find this. I had to Self Destruct my SRV a while back due to rolling it. (ps. Don't drink and drive!) so it was nice to get a replacement for the journey back home. (doing this in a Asp X)

    Alright, picture this hypothetical:

    You have a young teenage daughter and her new boyfriend is coming over to pick her up for their first date. He shows up in a hand me down Sidewinder. You invite him in to talk for a while first before he takes your baby girl out with her in his lap in the Sidewinder.

    Turns out you really like the kid, and generosity hits you like a brick. You decide you would loan him one of your ships for one date so your little girl has a nicer evening. What ship of yours do you loan him?
