    I made a mistake.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 07:12 AM PST

Well, a couple mistakes actually. First, i went to fight a battle i couldn't win.

Second. Lost that fight and tried to escape to supercruise, but for some reason it wouldn't do it since i wasn't "Lines up with the trajectory" even though i had none selected. During which my canopy broke.

Third. Looked at all the stations within the system but none had L, so i jumped to a next star. Fourth. I used supercruise assist.

Fifth. Boosted in panic missing the mailslot as oxygen was critically low. I died.

    Sixth. Couldn't rebuy my Anaconda.

    Seventh. Regret.

    Eighth. ?????

Ninth. Back to mining, i suppose.

How to balance C&P and Open play: It should be harder to interdict, and easier to evade. And notoriety should come with more consequences in high security systems.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 08:15 AM PST

Currently, it's very easy to evade interdiction from NPCs, but it's time consuming, and often you end up facing away from your destination. NPCs are more of an annoyance than an actual challenge - this is a problem!

On the contrary, it's very difficult to evade interdiction from players. Player aggressors get an advantage, and almost always win.

So #1, bring those two closer together. Make it easier to escape from players, and less time-consuming to escape from NPCs. Both of these goals can be accomplished just by making the time-to-escape less (aka the blue bar fills up faster when you're evading perfectly). This will make it a bit harder for PvP gankers to interdict other players who want to avoid it. And it will make evading NPC interdiction less annoying and time-consuming.

And #2, High Security should mean something. High security systems should have police patrolling near the star and ports in supercruise. If you have notoriety and jump into a high security system, you should be scanned and chased almost immediately, with the rank of the chasers being proportional to your notoriety. So if you're a murder-hobo ganker, you should be constantly chased by ATR or some other Elite ranked wing of police. If you kill them, they should send double the number of ships. Of course, this only applies in High Security systems. In medium, it should be a toss-up if you get chased, and in Low security or anarchy, the chances should be low or non-existent, respectively.

This will make High Security systems a bit more painful for gankers to hang around in, and a bit of a safe-haven for players who desire safety. But at the same time, if a ganker really wants a challenge, they can still try to gank in high sec. This is still a lot better than the almost zero consequences model we have today.

Moving files from HDD to SSD gave me big boost in performance

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 11:51 AM PST

Before I did it, I did research and view points ranged from "won't help at all" to "might help a bit".

I play in VR with a gtx 980ti and a 4th gen i5. Been struggling to smooth out stutters, smooth out dropping into a station, find a good balance of graphic quality and frame rate...

Realized I had installed on HDD. I made room and moved it over to my SSD. Glad I did. So much smoother. No hitches at all dropping into stations, transitions are much smoother, been able to bump up all the cool flashy graphic details, ultra shadows, ultra environments, ultra bloom... it's so much better.

    Planet's haunted

Found an occupied escape pod on a previously undiscovered planet 3000ly outside the bubble. He's shit out of luck because I don't have a cargo hold, but I feel real bad for the fella.

Pegasus has a first class passenger cabin, but I don't have any safe way to crack the pod open here.

The pod is giving off life signs. Call me a fool but I feel obliged to fly into the nearest asteroid base pick up a cargo hold and come back for him. I've noted down the coordinates. I know there's not much hope of finding him again, but I nearly pancaked my DBX against a ravine wall less than an hour ago, the first scratch on her in months, so I have to come back: It was nearly me.
