Why I am incredibly stoked for carriers (it’s not for the obvious reason) Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:40 PM PST No, it's not because it holds up to 16 ships, which I can carry around everywhere…or that you can store your modules in it(?)... I have at least two ships which rock specs straight off of the Anti-Xeno Initiative build guide. Meaning, no luxuries and pure Xeno combat. Every slot is populated Only with what furthers combat. This means that if my combat zone changes? I'm usually removing an HRM, shield cell bank etc. and equipping a fuel scoop and jumping (very painfully) to that new location at sub-20ly jumps. Pleiades, to Witchead and back? Not fun! Once at the new station, I then unequip my scoop, or even SRV (if I had to mine synthesis, or jumponium) and wait 30-80 minutes to transfer back my module/s. This being preferred to getting there in a "big jump ship" and then having to pay up to 30 million to transfer the fully engineered Cutter. With the carriers? We will no longer have to do this dance...and that makes me happy. …but that's not the best thing! Carriers = power plant and weight reduction buffs! For a fully combat oriented ship? We will no longer need to carry A-rated long range jump FSDs to get our heavy a** turds to a new location! That's right! Outfit those ships with a D-rated, fast boot sequence and stripped FSD. Power gains! That may mean the difference of an extra shield booster, or Guardian hull module. In a Cutter? With a previously g5 engineered 7A FSD? That's going from 1.04Mw, down to 0.36Mw for an engineered 5D FSD. It doesn't sound like much, but on these sort of specialized and overclocked builds? It's a ton. The mass? From 80T, to 7.2T! Use a fuel scoop regularly? That's an even greater difference, when removed. No need for a scoop on anything other than an explorer vessel! ...but, to the contrary, we don't know what the cost will be, exactly, to jump a mini-capital class ship in excess of 500ly. We may have to feed a sh** load of jumponium, per, jump. So it may not go without it's own set of costs. [link] [comments]

This is why we need base building and fleet carriers Posted: 06 Mar 2020 07:58 AM PST The "end-game" is currently non-existent. I've played hundreds of hours, and have billions of credits. What is my reward for all of this time spent? Besides better combat skills, and my name on some undiscovered systems, the only material reward is my Imperial Cutter...the best bulk cargo carrier in the game. I get to fly this majestic ship. So I have billions of credits, and a Cutter. There is nothing more I can buy, or spend my credits on, unless I want a fleet of Cutters (tempting...). There is no further way for me to have an impact on the galaxy, other than participating in BGS and faction shenanigans. Fleet carriers and base building would, firstly, let us leave a physical mark on the galaxy. Secondly, the possibilities of having customized bases can expand gameplay into another dimension...I doubt a base will be just another station or installation. There would need to be gameplay involved, and with this, we may get the opportunity to build an end-game "empire" of sorts, based on trading, combat, control of systems/planets, etc. This is wild speculation - but since this is supposed to be a "new era" that "dramatically" expands game-play, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that these bases we build will just be part of an "empire-building" (for lack of a better word) mechanic that lets experienced players have a way to constantly build something greater and greater, and have something to work for that is rewarding, and doesn't end. TL;DR: Today with all these credits, the best thing a CMDR can get is a Cutter. With base building, this opens up a whole new dimension of possibilities for an "end-game" for a CMDR or squadron spend their credits on, and to work for, that can have tangible effects (physical, or economic, etc) on the galaxy - way more than just a big ship. The story of the story of Salomé Posted: 06 Mar 2020 02:22 AM PST My Twitch stream from last night regarding the Salomé event in Elite Dangerous 3 years ago is now live on Youtube. I hope you find it interesting, CMDRs. There are various links to content in the description. Hopefully it serves to quash some of the rumours regarding the event. On the stream we had representation from both Salomé's escort wing and CMDR Harry Potter who struck the killing blow. Right on, Commanders. [link] [comments]

Frontier "the plan has not changed for how we're treating future GalNet articles" Posted: 06 Mar 2020 03:24 AM PST Will Flanagan Community Manager Frontier Today at 9:38 AM Dev Post #392 Hello Commanders, Just wanted to jump in this here locked thread and clarify Stephen's earlier post. Essentially, the plan has not changed for how we're treating future GalNet articles, which (as we stated here) will be tied to in-game activity, significant narrative developments, new ships and modules and so forth. It is the 'off-camera' narratives, that we have previously published via GalNet, which we currently have no plans to return. The framework for Community Goals exist and while the regular cadence of Community Goals is not planned to see a return, we will still see some Community Goals in the future. Apologies for any confusion that was caused! [link] [comments] |
