Just want to say thanks to the kind soul who reverse-pirated me $3million of diamonds!

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:18 AM PDT

First off I'm new to this game, about 2 weeks in. What an awesome experience so far, I love this game. On my 4th day of playing, I got pulled into some dudes interdiction and he drops me a message to pull out my cargo scoop and pick up the diamonds he just left for me. WOW! I thought he was bs'ing me, anyways he wasn't, i sold them to the market in lundwall city and made $3.5million.

    What a great community!!

Does this type of thing happen very often or was that just pure beginners luck?

I think it'd be cool if Admiral/King had some special messages procedurally generated to their inbox

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT

    Title.

Long version: There's currently no benefit (outside of roleplay purposes) to get above Rear Admiral / Duke in the respective navies as they offer no new unlock and most people are already probably tired of being glorified mailmen enough of the grind to get the Corvette or Cutter. I think it'd be really cool if someone who obtained these ranks got random messages about the goings-on within the navy that were completely procedurally generated and related to the BGS.

    Example:

    Commander,

To keep all of our auxiliary Admirals informed of our current situation, we believe you should be made aware of the war in <System with Federation faction at War> against <faction>. Should you be near the system, visit <name of random station with large pad within the system> to obtain a briefing of the war status. As always, your assistance to the Federation is greatly appreciated

PvP Racing: Why are Racing Computers not a Thing?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:13 AM PDT

On a recent visit to Bosch Beacon (planetary) in my new I-Eagle, I over shot the base on approach. Rather than compromise my integrity and execute a loop of shame, I decided to circumnavigate the moon via the poles!

It was great fun, and along the way it occurred to me that it would be nice if there was a way for me to track my speed, time and altitude—when surface skimming I always try to stay under 150 meters.

Then I thought, "You know, if I could set a series of waypoints as well, I could create a race course anywhere!"

Building on this, it occurred to me, "And, if TWO PLAYERS had these racing computers with the ability to share waypoints, data, and make bets… Well then you'd have an easy way to have competitive PvP racing just about anywhere!!!!!"

So commanders, why is this not a thing already and how can we make it happen?

I Analyzed the Entire EDSM Database to Find the Best Stars to find Earth-Likes. Here's the Result.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:19 PM PDT

    4 : A (Blue-White) at 15.5%

    5: Neutron Star at 5.73%

    5 : M (Red dwarf) at 5.56%

    After thoughts

    • This only accounts for main stars. Like, the ones that appear on the galaxy map for you to plot to. This does not mean what the earth like is orbiting.

    • I'm surprised to see that a main star Neutron has a higher chances than an M-type star. But maybe this is because more people zoom through M-class stars since they are so abundant?

    • This also does not take into account what percent of stars in that category are earth-like capable either. Meaning 30% of Earth-Like stars are F-type, but what % of ALL f-types are earth like?

This Game's Problem isn't the Grind

    Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:49 PM PDT

Elite: Dangerous has really become a game I love, but just never really want to play.

It wasn't like this at first. At first, no, it was cool! I earned credits, unlocked engineers, did some deep space exploration for variety...

... and then I got all my desired dream ships, one for each and every role, and got to engineering them all to the highest specs, and it was really fulfilling to get there. A DBX as my bubble taxi... a high-end Fer-de-Lance for bounty hunting... an AspX for exploration, a Phantom for salvaging, a Cutter for mining, a Python for trading, and an Anaconda for passenger flights. All nicely precision-engineered to do the things I need them to do in just the way I want them t-

... and then it hit me. Then it really hit me, and suddenly the game, and everything I had thus far achieved in it, felt shockingly empty. Suddenly I realized the problem with this game, and it was a kind of strangely heartbreaking realization and feeling.

But what hit me? Well, it was one simple question that occurred to me. It occurred to me once I had the ships I wanted, had them outfitted and engineered how I wanted, and was aaall good to go. That question was very simple, and the lack of an answer to it made me stop playing the game... that question is just two words:

    "... now what?"

One of the best games I have ever played.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:53 AM PDT

I started playing ED about 3 hours ago and I can already say it is one of the most interesting and immersive games I have ever played. I'm in the 3 hours I've played I've made about 250k, with my most recent job being 100k, and my first being about 20, how much higher will the pay get as I climb the ranks/ ally with the Federation? TIA
