how most elite dangerous ships are useless and how to improve the playing/ progression experience.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:19 AM PDT

last night while flying back to jameson memorial i had a thought. i realized that ultimately, most ships in elite dangerous are useless. we have 38 ships to choose from, and the community generally only uses 11-12 of them. i cant speak for outliers but i have close to 1000 hours in the game and ive never had any intention or reason to fly the ships outside of those 11-12, which i know is the case for many.

reason being is lack of specialization, and generally poor ship mechanics. lakon makes the only specialized trade ships in the game, yet the only one with a competitive cargo hold relative to the other ships of its class is the type 9, which for some reason, the opulent cutter outclasses as a trade ship. the type 7 would only be competitive if it was a medium ship, and the type 6 is fairly useless at this stage in the game.

faulcon delacey has an ungodly amount of multipurpose ships, a few of which are better at exploring than lakons specialized exploration ships. im looking at you, phantom and conda. the only ships that actually do what theyre supposed to do and do it best are saud krugers passenger ships, and (some) of core dynamics combat ships.

because of this mismatch of what ships do what, many ships get looked over. but heres how to fix that, at least in my own opinion. make the ships more specialized, and give those ships traits/abilities other ships dont have. give trade ships h.u.d.s with trading information, give combat ships h.u.d.s focused on radar, power, velocity, and weapons. exploration ships could have a heads up display focused on scanners and data. exploration ships should also have oversized fsd's so as not to be outclassed by a large multipurpose ship that weighs half as much as it should. you get the idea. Help us repair stations!

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:10 AM PDT

Hi everyone, you may have noticed the "Repairing station" markers slowly disappearing as time goes on. That's thanks to Operation Ida (in no way associated with IDA, the Independent Defence Agency) and the local player minor factions and some independent commanders hauling commodities to these stations. The thing is, we could be going a LOT faster if we had more commanders. The biggest nightmare that was out there is done, so we're just finishing all the normal hauling commodities. If you wish to join, you can use the link https://discord.gg/f5bk7A to join the Discord, we'll get you going fast... There's also the option to not join the discord server, but that would create a bit of chaos in the spreadsheets Ida's yellow names (the admin team) have built over the years.

If you're not sure about helping us, I have some statistics for you here:

The bot we're using has been online for 680 days and 19 hours, 1 411 players have contributed at least one ton to one of Ida's repair targets and logged it in our delivery channel/app/VoiceAttack plugin, we've moved 79 652 199 tons in 116 010 deliveries, and now, with the use of Fleet Carriers, we're moving at a speed of ~100 000 tons per day to complete the 17 remaining stations, which all together need 10 mil tons!

I've also heard that there are going to be some celebrations at the end of the last station. Also also, thanks to the Carriers, you can also make some money from these trades...

ED Chair update for anyone interested from my last post. I've bought three monitors for the platform and a spotless sexy seat I picked up for £50 from a scrap yard out of an almost brand new car that had crashed..... Also loads of timber! Starting building too... But no pictures of that bit yet.

Finally met another CMDR! And then I exploded, LOL

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:32 PM PDT

I am very new to the game, just started a week ago. Yesterday I finally got my Cobra Mk III fully equipped for LTD mining and made my way over to one of the current go-to locations. I made a run last night and had a tidy $20M profit, woohoo! Figured I'd try to get another run in on my lunchbreak today.

Everything was working out great, I had a nice load of LTDs and was nearly to the sell port, in supercruise. Got interdicted, and although I wasn't super sure what was going on, it was clearly not an NPC. Came out of interdiction, was immediately attacked and within about 15 seconds I was exploded. No requests via chat, no demands, straight up kaboom. (Edit: it looks like it was actually 9 seconds, LOL https://imgur.com/a/iUr3pDL )

So that was exciting! It was nice to finally get to interact with another CMDR. I mean, it sucked my ship was blown up, but whatever - I play in Open for personal reasons and I know and accept the risks. It just so happened that the closest port and the highest price were the same place today, and I wanted to see what would happen if I went for it. Now I know! LOL

Anyways, I'm not mad, I'm glad I finally got to see another side of the game.
