    Fleet carrier jump

Stumbled on a fleet carrier leaving a system I was in, Iv not seen that before so got over excited, jumped onto VR and just watched the show like my inner child space nerd slack jawed in amazement. Was much more excited than I really should have been.

Community event proposal: Type 1a supernova and evacuation of neighboring star systems

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 07:34 AM PDT

If you have a white dwarf in close orbit with a star, you can expect to see material being drawn off of the star to accrete onto the white dwarf over time. It would make for a spectacular visual from a distance, and flying into it would pose a deadly danger from overheating.

A much rarer but potentially interesting community event which the devs could trigger manually would be a type 1a supernova, which occurs when too much material accretes onto a white dwarf sparking a catastrophic explosion (a process taking millennia). Naturally anyone who was in the system at the time would be killed unless they were moving away from it at greater than 1c at the time (which would itself be interesting) and the system itself would be left permit locked since everything is destroyed, but the element which would make it a community event is the danger such an occurrence would pose to neighboring systems. With FTL travel and communications they would have warning that it was coming (and it would take an amount of time equal to the distance from the event at lightspeed for the wave to reach them), but inhabited planets in particular could take years to evacuate.

Think station evacuations, but on a colossal scale. I picture a space elevator from the surface of a planet up to a station in geosynchronous orbit (likely a hollowed out asteroid towed into orbit from which material is used to construct the cable, which you could follow all the way down to the planet's exclusion zone if you were so inclined, and which would have transports moving up and down it which could be targeted causing illegal cargo to spill into the void and earning immediate bounties if targeted) with a constant stream of evacuees who need to be picked up and delivered to rescue ships, a situation slavers would doubtless attempt to take advantage of. There could be further developments in such a community event where the superpowers quarrel over where to resettle them.

Poker play with Elite Dangerous ver. 2.0

Poker play with Elite Dangerous ver. 2.0

    CMDR information and location in-game

About a year ago I worked out a way to add poker play to Elite Dangerous. Although the idea was ok in theory, the play structure of Elite did not make it easy for any new interaction to occur barring the social aspect of poker itself. Docking at a station and then accessing my poker room (secure and free to play) was a neat addition but was sorely missing key elements that are important. Player actions in and out of the galaxy sandbox ultimately must have some meaning to be truly immersive so I let the idea sit. After the addition of fleet carriers I wondered if anything else could be done and decided to take another look...

After re-evaluating the additions we received with the carriers and lots of testing I can now present version 2.0.

    1. How has the system changed?

Originally PC players had one action to take- Dock at a pre-determined station in game and use my EDMC plugin to connect to the poker room, which opens in your browser window or tab. Wins/Losses had no bearing in-game unfortunately.

Currently I still leverage the EDMC plugin but with these key differences- Players can still dock at pre-determined locations and enter. By docking at specific fleet carriers a player can actually buy-in and cash-out with their poker accounts in game using the carrier commodity market.

Unfortunately there is no way for console players to log in because the EDMC plugin is necessary for this to work.

    EDMC plugin commodity transaction

    2. How do you use the commodities market to do that?

A known behavior with some carrier owners and their squadrons/friends is the selling of commodities well below actual market value in order for those players to go and sell them elsewhere for huge profit margin. It's a bit clunky as you have to do buy or sell orders to facilitate this. I now make this scenario work fairly for my purposes.

Buy-In: Using the EDMC plugin, all a CMDR has to do is dock at a Vice Ventures fleet carrier with some cargo. It could be any commodity type, but in this example we have the carrier offering to BUY Tritium for the bare minimum, say 2000 credits per unit. If the CMDR sells 10 units of Tritium, the plugin will credit their account 10 and then log them in to the poker room. If a CMDR needs to re-buy or increase their chips, as long as they are docked and carry enough cargo they can do more than 1 buy-in. Losses are just that- the CMDR loses the fair market value of their buy-in cargo.

Cash-Out: Cash-outs work a similar way with a few caveats. Cash-outs unlike buy-ins need to be scheduled. After requesting a cash-out from a carrier admin, the admin will secure the carrier dock and allow a SALE to the player that equals the cash-out amount (let's say 100 Tritium units). The EDMC plugin will then subtract the 100 units from the poker room account when the commodity transaction completes. The player would be charged the same market minimum (the prior example of 2000 credits per unit) plus a pre-determined carrier fee (This is an additional way the carrier can generate profit). The player can then un-dock and sell the 100 unit Tritium winnings at FAIR market value (40k + credits per unit) within game.

Security checks are in place so that buy-in/cash-out activity will not validate at any in-game location not authorized by Vice Ventures.

    Vice Ventures

    3. What is Vice Ventures?

It takes people working together to make this happen. The Vice Ventures player group is currently looking for independent fleet carrier owners to join our card room network. A carrier owner within our group can leverage their investment and host games. A certain level of responsibility will come with this- The owner must make sure that accurate and reasonable timely cash-outs are made to players that request them as well as managing docking access. We have auditing capability to help things go smooth, but the carrier admin must close the deal in this proposed system. Just like a real card room, a carrier owner/operator must have enough of a specific commodity (money) to cover play at the carrier. You could make a nice sum running high stakes games with expensive commodities with a reasonable service fee, but that requires significant upfront investment.

    4. What else is Vice Ventures planning?

The actively recruiting Vice Ventures squadron (ID- VV55 also known as the 55's) will help coordinate fleet placement, commodity logistics, and security for locations, partners, and players. Since cargo will be hauled/traded and sums will be won/lost I'm sure some drama will occur. We are also looking for top guns to bring justice to those who would attempt to cheat or threaten our customers. Vice Ventures will embrace, protect, and support newer players who believe and contribute to our vision and mission. We have a strong preference to play OPEN considering the interaction. Currently we operate outside of the bubble and with enough members we plan to join the BGS and make things...interesting.

    Big buy-in haul

    5. Are games available outside of fleet-carriers/Vice Ventures?

Any PC player can play poker at our sites regardless of affiliation. We also can offer games at station locations for players that have already funded their accounts. Fleet carriers only have so many docks available, so stations and other dock-able installations are nice for larger gatherings of players and interaction with other established groups.

    System HIP 83506

    6. Is this currently available in-game?

Visit my page https://clubspade.com/vice-ventures for more information and links to get started.

The flagship carrier Vice Ventures Q4K-71H along with station Harvard Base is currently located in system HIP 83506. HIP 83506 is the current public testing ground due to our lore and ease of distance between in-system locations. Bring some friends to HIP 83506 (don't forget your cargo racks!) and purchase cheap hydrogen fuel at Harvard Base or elsewhere. Take that fuel to our carrier and sell it to make your first low risk buy-in. Entering the poker rooms can be done from either carrier or station, but buy-in/cash-out is only available at the carrier. If you need assistance or have questions my page has a forum for support or reach out to me if I'm logged in (CMDR Alxes) and I will try to help out.

Currently the buy-in for this public test is a 10 unit minimum, 50 unit maximum of hydrogen fuel.

    7. Anything else?

If you're on PC I'd love to see CMDR's giving this a shot and getting some participation and feedback!

There are so many people contributing to making Elite a better experience and I hope this turns into a solid contribution.
