I hope Odyssey will bring this kind of view. Even if it doesn't, walking inside stations is still amazing ! Big up to FDevs !

After waiting for 4 days, I have finally received my invitation to attend the state funeral of Prince Harold Duval. Heading to Capitol in 7 hours from the time of this post. May the light of Duval reflect from behind every star in the Galaxy. (Erika Wagner)

Frontier accomodating players who don't want ships might mean SRVs will become a lot more important.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:12 AM PDT

Think about it. Apex Interstellar allows for players who cbf with a ship to travel between social hubs in different star ports. What isn't really elaborated upon is how will such players go to biological and geological sites, surface settelements, and PoIs - where Odyssey's actual gameplay loops will largely take place - when they don't have ships. You're not going to find some fancy Apex Interstellar booth at some backwater rusty farm at some long forgotten exoplanet. There is also the fact that, as evident in Horizons, settlements are ages away from cities. Sometimes at painfully impossible distances using SRVs as we know them now.

Having some sort of vehicle in Odyssey is going to be essential for such players who don't find ships appealing. Naturally, mainstream audiences tend to mesh better with surface vehicles in games, as evident by the Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto series. This raises the question as to how much SRVs will take the spotlight in Odyssey. I mean, there's also the gameplay opportunities Odyssey opens up meaning there's no longer any excuse not to make other, more specialist SRVs as Frontier wanted to do.

It frames the issue that, more SRV features and options would have been a nice addition to Horizons, to now being the case that it is absolutely vital for Odyssey, because as it stands current SRVs just will not suffice at all for the gameplay style they are saying they are promoting as an option (i.e, no ship). Frontline Solutions might be how players get transported to combat zones though, it is a mercenary outfit.

Are Fleet carriers gonna have a social hub?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:37 AM PDT

Did anybody find anything about this? If not, maybe a good question for tommorows stream. because this would be perfect for someone who uses his Fleet carrier as a ferry or for exploration with Friends. And travelling with a Fleet carrier wouldn't be so boring as it is now if it is gonna be in.

Just a little something I noticed in the dev diary regarding how destinations and distances (jump range) may work with space taxis.

Just a reminder if you get bored flying, try FA Off (great tutorial in the link)

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:11 AM PDT

    Hello commanders,

the following might be an old hat for most veteran pilots, especially those who use dedicated HOTAS.

But I just dabbled with Flight Assist Off setting today after coming across this tutorial series by CMDR Hobs from Newton's Gambit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6zIXu52RnA

I immediately bought a Sidewinder to try it out and must say it's really fun to fly this way. I've tried his initial exercise of rotating together with a station via tethering and it worked quite well.

Also, a small complaint I made about the auto-rotation not working from outside a station to keep you in line with your attitude is non-existent here, as I can just match my rotation to the station on approach.

The only downside is, I play with a PS4 controller and have to click the left stick to switch between Yaw and strafing sideways, but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time (no money for a dedicated Hotas atm and I already tailored the controls around my other needs)

So if you've never tried it, give it a go. Grab a cheap sidewinder and try to master flying with FA off.

Just being in a stationary orbit around the station was a fun thing to see. And I'm sure advanced pilots use the Newtonian flight model to be at an advantage in combat too.

Maybe you're bored doing whatever it is you do right now, so why not try a new flight model?

I even managed to get back into the station, though I was juggling around the pads and called out for loitering when trying to get to my designated pad.

Sure enjoyed this test flight and will practice more.

This post was just meant to bring this to the attention of other relatively new commanders who haven't yet heard of or tried this feature. Flying feels totally different this way.

EDIT: Thinking about the possibilities, how come I haven't heard of a dedicated Squadron named The Blue Vipers yet? That would be some Youtube footage I'd be down to watch!
