I noticed the weird white text on the rifle and zoomed in on it to find the first official gun manufacturer. Takada. (Found this a while ago, decided to post it here just now)

    PSA: Get hyped, but...

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 07:46 AM PST

That trailer was awesome and it looks incredible. But it's important to temper your expectations about what this game currently is vs what we're imagine it will become. Because this will be the same game.

There's this effect that happens when a feature (or whole game) is talked about for years before it comes out, and inevitably the release won't match up with what some/most people were imagining it would be. That's exacerbated when there isn't much information released about it beforehand -- we're apt to run wild with what we think the content could be, which turns into what the content should have been. Think about fleet carriers: mobile, player-operated space stations is cool as shit, but it was hyped like we'd be flying around in star destroyers and so it soured the experience for some players.

This game and this engine is built around flying big 'ol spaceboats around. This (probably) won't be an amazing first-person shooter, because it can't be and it's not intended to be. The trailer make it seems like this could play like COD, but we have to expect that this will be only a supplemental part of the gameplay.

There will inevitably be complaints that the spacelegs content is shallow, that there isn't much to do or that it's inconsequential. But just remember: this is a spaceboat game.

So get excited for what they're going to give us, but temper your expectations of how this will feel, how it will play, and even what you can do.

Probably my favourite image from the new trailer. I was hoping for a variety of atmospheric conditions / weather and this looks like we're going to get it.

Galnet: Outpost Planned for 'The Roof of Space'

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:29 AM PST

    https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/article/outpost-planned-roof-space/

Multi-billionaire Zachary Rackham is constructing a permanent outpost at the farthest system above the galactic plane.

The orbital outpost will be located within the HIP 58832 system. This is commonly held to be at the galactic zenith, one of the highest locations that can practically be reached.

The project is funded by the corporation Rackham Capital Investments, with the close involvement of Universal Cartographics and several other scientific organisations. The outpost's location will make it ideal for gathering astronomical data on the overall structure of the galactic spiral.

This historic scientific endeavour was remarked upon by Mr Rackham from his private villa complex on the Rhea Archipelago:

"Back in my days of plying the trade routes in a second-hand Sidewinder, the idea of standing on the roof of space was an idle daydream. This new generation of pilots and ships will make my vision a reality."

"No doubt many important scientific observations will be made once the outpost is up and running, but more importantly, there'll be a bar – and the drinks are on me!"

A spokesperson for Rackham Capital Investments later confirmed that the outpost in the HIP 58832 system would be operational on the 17th of December 3306, but clarified that there was no legal guarantee for beverage reimbursement.

Finally made it to Elite... after 6 years. ;)

After 6 years of playing I finally managed to get an 'Elite' rank as an explorer. Haven't done that since the ZX Spectrum back in the 80s. I know it's not very impressive really, but it meant a lot to me. :)

    Cheers,

    Drew.
