Community Goal: Explorers Needed For Coalsack Nebula Project - Ammonia Worlds Data Collection

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 06:49 AM PST

    https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/article/explorers-needed-coalsack-nebula-project

    https://elitedangerous.com/community/goals/

Sirius Atmospherics has requested help from independent pilots to provide exploration data focusing on ammonia worlds for terraforming purposes.

The subsidiary of Sirius Corporation is working in partnership with the Alliance to establish colonies within the Coalsack Nebula, and to identify sites of commercial and scientific interest.

Dr Maximilian North, Sirius Atmospherics's project director, outlined the requirements:

"We have developed revolutionary new terraforming procedures for terrestrial planets with ammonia-based atmospheres. Our collaboration with the Alliance is the perfect opportunity to try and put these to practical use, with the goal of transforming the region into a more human-friendly place."

"Sirius Atmospherics offers rewards for explorers who can provide us with exploration data. We are particularly interested in detailed scans focusing on the composition of ammonia worlds, not just in the Coalsack Nebula but elsewhere. Gathering wide-ranging data will enable us to determine the most suitable targets for environmental conversion."

Pilots are requested to deliver exploration data to the Sirius Atmospherics research facility at Betancourt Base in the Musca Dark Region PJ-P b6-1 system.

Although the company is paying handsomely for all exploration data, it is the data from ammonia worlds that will really progress the research, with data from mapped ammonia worlds being three times as useful. Depending on the tier reached, Sirius Atmospherics will offer higher prices for exploration data starting on the 11th of December 3306.

    • Tier 1: Standard payout for exploration.
    • Tier 2: One week at double the standard payout.
    • Tier 3: One week at three times the payout.
    • Tier 4: Two weeks at three times the payout.
    • Tier 5: Two weeks at four times the payout.

If successful, the top 75% of contributors will receive a fully engineered Detailed Surface Scanner with twice the normal probe coverage.

    • System = Musca Dark Region PJ-P b6-1
    • Station = Betancourt Base
    • Objective = Universal Cartographics
    • Commodity List = Universal Cartographics
    • Current / Target = 374 / 27000000
    • Expires = in 7 days

Things I wish I knew when I started playing a week ago

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 10:39 AM PST

After a week of playing and earning 1 billion credits, thought I'd share my experience/tips.

    1. Rebind the mouse so y axis is for yaw instead of roll, it makes flying way easier to control. I like QE for roll left/right, RF for throttle increase/decrease, WS for thrust up/down, AD for thrust left/right, shift+WS for thrust forward/backwards. I also like setting the throttle at 25% increments instead of continuous so I only need to hit the throttle key a few times instead of holding them down.
    2. Do the tutorial missions and learn to fly. Skip the combat one for now if you're unable to complete it.
    3. Always have a rebuy so you don't lose your ship if you die. Press 4 and make sure your balance is greater than the rebuy cost.
    4. Play in solo if you don't like getting ganked.
    5. If you leave the PFD (beginner area) after you rank up, then you will not be able to return https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Pilots%27_Federation_District
    6. Never run out of fuel while exploring. Open the galaxy map, choose the 4th tab, click map, scroll the dropdown and select star class, only have the first 7 options selected for KGB FOAM star classes, and select apply filter to route for the automated route planning. If you do end up stuck somewhere without fuel check out https://fuelrats.com/
    7. Try not to grind too much, it'll make the game boring.
    8. Useful guides https://cmdrs-toolbox.com/

This game is just the right amount of boring

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:42 PM PST

It sounds like I'm talking shit, but I'm not. Elite Dangerous is just boring enough that it's a perfect relaxation game for me.

I absolutely SUCK at multitasking. I can't watch a show and have a conversation at the same time; I'll miss both and end up confused and frustrated. But with ED? No super deep story or lore demanding my attention? Long stretches of chillin in super cruise?

It's like driving my car. I can listen to a podcast or music without feeling distracted! I got through a whole episode of Duncan Trussel, AND made 150k credits, AND I can still remember what the episode was about!

Game changer for me. Fly safe, CMDRs!

Fuel Rats - Thank you for my most surreal gaming experience in YEARS.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 10:38 PM PST

So I haven't played in awhile, and just came back recently. I'm out mining... went a little too far, and sure enough, I can't make the jumps back. I google systems near me, and saw there was a planetary pad large enough for my ship... I get to that system, and that planetary outpost didn't exist... (wtf on that one?).

Anyway, I google my options, and Fuel Rats comes up. I'm reading... and I start thinking "This can't be a thing, is it?". I send a message, log in, and within minutes someone is there to help me. CMDR Terminals, you're a god send! My mind is still a bit blown by all that, but thank you so much Fuel Rats!

So let me get this straight, the empire can't beat the feds in the combat CG's and now they can't even beat them in trading ones?

Expansion into the Coalsack Nebula might lead to a larger war with the Thargoids

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:01 AM PST

As more Galnet articles and community goals are released, it seems like a larger war with the Thargoids will be starting soon. The expansion into the Coalsack Nebula for meta-alloys, and Sirius Atmospherics' new plans to terrarform ammonia worlds there will surely anger the Thargoids, and it is likely to start a massive war with them. This war would also give a lore reason for Thargoid hunting payouts to increase, similarly to the recent increase in bounty vouchers.

A war between the Federation and Empire also seems to be on the Horizon, so things are not looking too great for humanity as of late. The bubble will soon be ravaged by war.
