PROTIP: If you need extra fueltanks and there is nowhere nearby that sells them, any tank stored from core internals can be fitted as a normal module

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 11:00 PM PST

Need an extra 32 ton tank on your Conda? Just store the one from core and whack it in an class 5 slot, the core one will be replaced with another even the station does not stock tanks as its "factory default", this goes for any ship, useful if you have the slots to spare and need to get somewhere with no scoop.

Just started playing. One of the best looking and sounding games I've ever played.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:29 AM PST

    Wow. This game is complicated.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:29 AM PST

Okay so I powered on my VR headset, plugged in my HOTAS, and started playing this game that's been on my mind for years now and I am blown away. It's so fun! And intricate! And beautiful!

But wow is this game complex. I am Having trouble keeping catching on to some basic concepts I think and find myself having to stop every 5 minutes to Reddit or YouTube a solution to something I don't understand that only leads to an actual answer less than half the time.

Is there anywhere to go, or a group to join that will help horribly newbish people like myself with some training wheels and get me out and about with some confidence?

There is so much I don't get. Why have 3 out of 4 of the mining implements I've bought not appear to do anything? The only thing that produces anything is the mining laser. The missiles don't appear to do anything!

How do I just magically find the items that these supply runs are asking for?

Why can't I land on a planet when the instructions to do so seem so simple. All I can do is orbit!

Please. Help. Lost in space. Lost in the sauce.

Don't expect Ship Interiors in EDO

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:00 AM PST

I know lots of us would love to see 'em (and the associated gameplay), but I think it's unlikely they're coming in EDO. Here's why:

    They're not coming at launch:

While Odyssey will see players explore a wide range of on and off world locations including station interiors, ship interiors will not be included at launch. (source)

EDO isn't a Seasonal delivery like prior DLCs

    Seasons have been dumped:

Firstly on the season plan; I don't think people liked having to pay for multiple updates in one go, so that is something we are going to move away from. (source)

    +

We have announced that the 'season pass' business model will be superseded by an alternative after the release of 2.4 The Return. (source)

EDO is considered more of an 'all in one' affair:

Going by these snippets from the last few Lavecons anyway...

So this time they're completing the entire mega-update in advance and not telling anyone what's in it until they're absolutely sure about what is going to be delivered. (2018)

The way they told me things, since Horizons was such a, let's stick with the term 'hard lesson', they decided to go with an 'everything at once' approach for the next expansion / update thing. So taking off time to actually work on the thing was necessary but in result as a whole it'll provide a more unified and refined experience that Horizons did not manage. (2019)

'Station Legs' & 'Ship Legs' were planned to be 2 separate expansions:

    Ye Olde Lifetime Pass Roadmap:

We do intend to release small, free updates after launch, but expansions that include significant new features and content will be charged for separately:

    • Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
    • Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports

The gameplay outlined for ships interiors + EVA = a lot of dev:

    • EVA & external ship repair (source)
    • Sneaking in amongst the cargo (source)
    • Fighting fires, dealing with toxic spills (source)
    • Combative boarding of ships and repelling of boarders.
    • Having hull breaches make the internal ship space contiguous with the external space. IE 'Seeing your cargo flying out into space' etc. (source)
    • Potentially stealing player ships (source).

TLDR, their objective seems to be to add game tech and mechanics, not just cosmetic additions etc.

(Whether they achieve any of that is another matter, but it's the type of thing they've floated, and essentially pre-sold with the Lifetime Pass).

Taken in concert, these aspects suggest ship interiors won't be inserted as some form of purely cosmetic add-on. Or arrive as a bonus update to EDO. It's just too much work, not how the DLC system seems to be structured now, and it's all been pre-sold as a stand-alone expansion.

The AXI Annual Report - 3306

The AXI Annual Report - 3306

    The Anti-Xeno Initiative Annual Report - 3306

3306 has been an active year for the Anti-Xeno Initiative and the AX community as a whole, we have seen new Thargoid Developments, Mysterious Activity in new regions and above all some incredible and record breaking achievements by some of the most skilled AX pilots in the community.

CMDR Pxtseryu has put together a spectacular year-in-review video summarising 3306 (2020) in Elite:Dangerous. The Anti-Xeno Initiative: Year in Review 2020

    The Jan/Feb Incursions

In mid January, Eagle Eye warning systems lit up with red warning lights as Thargoid Infestations were reported across both the Pleiades Nebula and Witch Head Nebula. The Anti-Xeno Initiative, having been on standby for almost 8 months lept into action and we say some of the fastest responses ever with the infestations being slammed by eager pilots in just a few days.

However this was not sufficient in preventing the incursions and in the following week, six systems came under attack. For the first time in 8 months, The Anti-Xeno Initiative, The Post-Disaster Evacuation Service and Operation Ida were once more working side-by-side to bring stations back online in their time of need.

The Incursions were tougher than ever before and took upwards of 3-4 weeks to clear completely, with all incursions cleared by late Feburary.

This would be the last time we would see infestations and incursions for the remainder of the year.

    Operation Diamond Drive

With Brewer Corps announcement for the production of the Drake Class fleet carrier, the Anti-Xeno Initiative Leadership Team issues a directive to begin fund raising a squadron fleet carrier to act as the Flagship for the AXI fleet.

Pilots took to the belts with their mining boats and collectively fund raised over 13.4 Billion credits towards the Anti-Xeno Initiative Squadron Carrier.

    View the stats below:

    https://preview.redd.it/rox3ds4sve861.png?width=1606&format=png&auto=webp&s=0bcec3f600505f48f8515f099b65551048d4b892

The drive was completed in mid-april and the Initiative then voted on the name for the official carrier, the final name being settled on as "The Astras".

An Excerpt from the Business section of the Solar Times:

Galactic markets awakened to a jolt today, as the Anti-Xeno Initiative bought controlling interest in a Witch Head startup company: Xeno Research Group, to the surprise of many galactic pundits. "The Anti-Xeno Initiative crashed the Low Temperature Diamond Market throughout the Bubble last week", replied a Bank of Zaonce media representative. "At the time, our experts were perplexed by the sudden appreciation of AXI's stock value. All factors pointed towards it being a response to Brewer's press-release about Drake class Carriers being made available for public sale." Thargoid sympathizer groups, such as HALT, condemned the move claiming more Thargoid lives would be lost. "This only shows AXI for what it is. A group of genocidal maniacs, bent on the utter destruction of the Thargoids. They went out of their way to purchase a Witch Head company, just to justify more killing.", a thargoid sympathizer spoke at a protest on Mars; one of many such protests to erupt since the news broke. When asked about the sudden purchase of Xeno Research Group, AXI's CMDR Mackenheimer only had this to say: "Xeno Research Group was purchased as part of AXI's Unified Defense Program. The last Thargoid Incursion into the Witch Head Sector showed the regions defenses to be woefully inadequate. While Pleiades Sector systems were cleared within a single week, Witch Head systems suffered Thargoid attacks for over three. This cannot be allowed to happen again." When pressed regarding the Thargoid sympathizers concerns however, he responded sharply; "I don't care what traitors think of our legitimate purchase. All of our activities are undertaken with the express aim of defending all of humanity from the Thargoid menace. One day they'll come for your system, and we'll be coming for them. You can count on that."

The Astras leaving the shipyards on Jun 14th, can now be found in the Pleiades Nebula among the rest of the AXI fleet pending orders from high-command. Watch the Official Launch Video for the Fleet Carrier

The Art of War Community Goal

    https://www.antixenoinitiative.com/aow

With construction complete on The Astras Fleet Carrier, the Anti-Xeno Initiative Science Division commissioned a program to collect various Thargoid components, artefacts and relics as part of a project to paint the Flagship carrier in an experimental coating to better allow it to move undetected through Thargoid Space.

The AXI Science Division issued the following statement:

"It was recently discovered that a sufficiently thick coating of Thargoid blood, combined with a mixture of various Thargoid materials, can provide effective camouflage for capital-class structures. Our experts believe that a combination of factors can cause the bio-mechanical systems of Thargoid ships to mistake a human-made vessel for one their own, and ignore it. We intend to test this using our flagship. If our hypothesis is true will have a secure platform for offensive operations in hostile space. Unfortunately, our existing supplies of Thargoid Hearts and Meta-Alloys are tied up in other projects, so we do not have enough to effectively cover the entire vessel. We are also out of some other commodities that would allow us to further experiment with the formula."

Check out the Official Event Trailer Here

The Events target goal of 15,000 Thargoid Components was achieved with time to spare completing within a week of their target deadline. Pilots involved in the event were recognized with a special Ship Decal for their efforts and the Anti-Xeno Initiative has since gone on to complete the Paintwork on the Fleet Carrier rendering it potentially completely invisible to Thargoid Forces.

Read more about the event on the Official Webpage

Many Thargoids were harmed in the making of this....

    Thargoids in the Coalsack Nebula

To finish of the year, along with some spooky occurences it was noted that Thargoid Forces had appeared in the nearby Coalsack Nebula, this was the first time Thargoids had been seen outside the Pleiades and Witch Head Nebula since the same events occured for the latter.

The Anti-Xeno Initiative responded by elevating alert status to Yellow as pilots scrambled to the new region to begin recon and offensive actions.

Events are still unfolding as new starports are being developed in the area and politics are kicking off with advancements being made rapidly by Sirius Atmospherics in the region of terraforming the local worlds.

The Anti-Xeno Initiative will be closely monitoring the situation in this region in the coming weeks.

    Why should i leave solo?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:03 AM PST

I am a new Epic player. Been working on unlocking the engineers. Done bare minimum PvE and have no interest in PvP.

I know some players like to Gank or just kill other players for the fun of it. And that is the main reason i stay solo. Even when mining if an NPC scans me i just wake out. Just do not want conflict or risk losing out on hours of work

    What's the Least-Obvious, Most-Useful thing you wish you'd known from day 1?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:42 PM PST

As an explorer first and foremost, mine is that you can find Terraformables using the System map as long as you've done the Full Spectrum Scanner first.

For those that don't know, you drop into a system, do a honk (Discovery Scanner), then jump into FSS and scan all the categories of things you've decided you care about, then go into System Map, go to the information tab, and mouse over each body. If it's Terraformable it will say in the info tab "This body is a candidate for terraforming."

This is the only place this incredibly valuable and lucrative info appears and it is so fantastically not-obvious that I only found it by accident, halfway to Colonia. I have it down to muscle memory now and can absolutely smash it out, but the fact that this particular sequence is how you find terraformables needs to be mentioned more often. Most advice if you search "how to find terraformables" is discussing where they're likely to occur, which categories they'll be, etc., not literally where it is in the menus!
