    My first Thargoid encounter felt like a scene from a horror movie

    A few days ago I decided to venture outside the Bubble for the first time. Nothing major, just an expedition to the Coalsack Nebula in order to pick up a unit of Meta-Alloys to unlock Felicity Farseer. I did my homework, made sure I had all the equipment I needed, and set off. I didn't face any complications on the journey there, and managed to locate a planet with a barnacle on it. I headed down, landed nearby, and deployed in my SRV to go collect the alloy.

    I'd like to take a moment here to point out that I experienced the following in VR.

    I had driven maybe twenty meters from my Asp Explorer when I received an alert that my sensors were detecting an abnormal drive signature or something like that. I froze and looked up. A greenish-black cloud was forming high above me, out of which emerged a Thargoid ship. I turned my SRV around to get back to my ship, and just managed to get underneath the vehicle bay when the Thargoid released an energy pulse and disabled everything, leaving me stranded in the SRV.

    With the Asp above me, I couldn't see what the Thargoid ship was doing. After a few moments, the silence was broken by a loud humming behind me and to the right. I turned around and saw the barnacle I had come here for with a beam of pale green energy coming down on it from above. I sat there staring at it until the beam dissipated. And I kept staring at the barnacle for a while after the beam was gone.

    Eventually, I turned back around. At some point, my systems had powered back up. I peeked out from underneath my ship and looked up. The sky was clear; no Thargoids in sight. I drove over to the barnacle, harvested an alloy, and returned to my ship; all the while glancing up every few seconds. Once returned to the cockpit, I charted a course back to the bubble and took off. It was only after three or four jumps that I allowed myself to relax a little.

    Was helping some new guys at the guardian site. Switched to open on accident and ran into a few explorers working in their boosters. They weren’t thrilled when they saw a corvette fully combat outfitted hovering above their ships. Ended up helping them all finish the booster before leaving...

    Banana Nebula Expedition - Mavia Expansion Mission

    Good morning, commanders.

    On Wednesday 10th Feb (approx 1500 in-game time) the Victory-class fleet carrier Mavia will be departing on an expeditionary mission to the edge of the galaxy, where the Lyra's Song and Tenebrae regions meet. The intention is to explore a potential new Notable Stellar Phenomena 'bubble'. We already know of one such bubble, the 'BNE Site' - courtesy of CMDR ADM InfWhale, around the Banana nebula, 15000 ly from Sol. So we will be visiting this parent site on our journey along with some other beautiful and interesting places.

    Our intention is to start our journey from the Acants system and visit five nebulae on our way to what we are calling Site A. Mavia Admiral 'Nick Nicholson' is planning to stay on site for at least two weeks to identify the nature of the site as part of the BNE's expansion and is looking for exploration leaning CMDR's to hop aboard and assist in this important work. The Mavia is equipped with every service available, save for Secure trading (smugglers will be escorted to the airlock), so you could bring an extra ship or two, though you will probably only need one. We are looking for commanders who are curious like cats and brave enough to face the void. We want to know why there is a higher concentration of Molluscs or Pods in certain regions? How crystals are formed? What does Mollusc caviar taste like and is it better than rice pudding? Join us on this expedition and we might just find out!
