New California Republic Recruitment Drive! Posted: 31 Oct 2019 11:21 AM PDT Greetings, commanders! Following the release of the NCR Colonization Strategy, I have since devised a Discord group where we can communicate more effectively. All members are welcome. With your support, we are well on our way to establishing a free and independent democracy within the California Nebula. o7 [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Oct 2019 08:14 AM PDT HD 38161 I did not discover this first, but I stumpled upon something quite unique : A black hole orbiting a blue giant star, with a (non-landable, unfortunatly) planet orbiting the black hole. Now this is unusual, but merits only a "hmm interesting". Thing is, the planet is on a 0.5 day, extremely eccentric Orbit. It goes as close as some 0.40 ls fron the black hole. I am now waiting in orbit for periapsis. Should be in a couple of hours or so. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:55 PM PDT EDIT: DISCORD LINK https://discord.gg/uhpBpe9 Yesterday I floated the idea of colonizing a system in the California Nebula that would be dubbed the New California Republic. This was received fairly well by this sub, and so I have devised a detailed strategy for how we would go about accomplishing this goal. *The System* After thoroughly scouting out the nebula, I have deemed California Sector FB-X C1-7 to be the perfect place to found our civilization. Although C1-7 is in a darker region of the nebula, the beautiful cosmic dust and gasses are still a breathtaking sight to behold. It would have been preferable to set up the NCR in a more photogenic region of the nebula, but no system could match the material benefits that C1-7 has to offer. C1-7 is a Class K star with a variety of different features. Most notably, *two* water worlds surrounding the system's main star. These planets would be perfect for terraforming, or at the very least, would serve as a wonderful place to study interstellar micro-organisms. The more Earth-like of the two planets even has a mass similar to that of Earth. C1-7 Sports a total of 24 bodies, which I will provide the statistics for below. 1 Class K star 1 Class M Star 2 Water Worlds 2 High Metal Content Worlds 3 Rocky Bodies, 1 of which is landable 14 Icy Bodies, 2 of which are landable And 2 Rocky Ice World In addition to the prospect of terraformable planets, the three landable bodies provide a wonderful location for surface outposts. However, we believe that the primary orbital station for the New California Republic's headquarters should be located in orbit of the water world C1-7 A1. *Political Allies and Neighbors* The California Nebula's largest influence is undoubtedly the Alliance. Several temporary outposts and research facilities have been created there, though these are far from proper civilizations. The New California Republic, however, would recognize these outposts as Alliance territory and shall not encroach upon them. However, given the Nebula's history with piracy and crime, we would be remiss to not acknowledge the security concerns of these outposts. In exchange for unconditional recognition of the Republic as a sovereign entity operating within the California Nebula, the Republic would aid in defending these outposts. In addition, the Republic would like to extend a series of negotiations with the Alliance in order to further develop trade, industry, and security within the region for both parties. Specific terms for these negotiations will be drawn up after the establishment of the NCR. Other than the presence of the Alliance, no other faction has laid claim to the systems within the California Nebula. The Empire and Federation have paid very little attention to the Nebula, making it a much more preferable spot to colonize. *Economy and Government* Given the proximity of Alliance research outposts, as well as the presence of worlds capable of supporting life, we propose that the primary economic industries for the NCR homeworld will be High Tech and Terraforming. The Alliance, of course, would play a major role in the economic prosperity of the NCR as well as expansion throughout the Nebula. Given the Alliance's efforts to construct a more sufficient supply line from the Bubble to the California Nebula, supply lines which we no doubt will need to use, it would only be fitting that the NCR aid the Alliance in this endeavor. Establishing a secure supply line and possibly trade routes from the Bubble to the Nebula will be vital to the growth of our civilization. The primary governing body of the NCR will be a representative democracy. The President shall be elected in semi-annual elections, as well as senatorial legislators. If considerable discontent regarding the leadership of the NCR arises, legislators may propose either a senatorial or presidential referendum. If one quarter of the senate agrees on the proposal, a referendum will be held, in which citizens will be allowed to vote on whether or not a snap election shall be held. If a majority percentage of voters vote in favor of an election, one shall be held one month after the referendum is concluded. If a senatorial referendum passes, all members of the senate will be up for re-election. If a presidential referendum passes, then it is only the position of the president that is up for re-election. If neither the sitting president nor an opposing candidate wins with a majority vote, then the vice president shall assume a temporary role as president until a candidate wins the election with a majority vote. *Meta Issues* In the initial suggestion thread, one user pointed out a possible issue with Bethesda, the current developers of the Fallout franchise from which the name of our proposed colony originates from. They pointed out that they might not be so approving of using the name "New California Republic." However, United States copyright law says that this isn't an issue. From Wikipedia - "The US Copyright Office specifically states that "Copyright does not protect the idea for a game, its name or title, or the method or methods for playing it. Nor does copyright protect any idea, system, method, device, or trademark material involved in developing, merchandising, or playing a game."" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_and_video_games So using the name New California Republic is perfectly legal. However, some might not be too keen on using the name considering how on the nose it is. If this ends up being the prevailing opinion of either the public or FDEV, then I propose that we simply use the abbreviation "NCR." As the system name. NCR-1 Would be the name of the first colonized system, and if we were to expand, colonies would follow in numeric order. -
