Made it to Colonia for the first time, sold my ASPX for a Phantom, and had a nice greeting from my landing pad. o7 Commanders.

Is incredibly bad flying a legit defensive strategy?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:39 AM PST

I'm an appalling pilot. The usual approach to a station involves:

    • speeding towards the thing absent-mindedly
    • suddenly noticing red 'slow down' messages
    • checking to see whether I switched on the assist thingy, because I could swear I didn't forget this time
    • I forgot
    • Aaarrgh a planet!
    • How did we even miss that?…ok let's turn around and…wait is that the same planet? How come it's above us now? Omg turn turn!
    • Phew…wait, how come the station's so far away now? we literally just flew past it…

Anyway, I eventually I get myself there via lots of twists and turns and scrapes, and with a lot of fool's luck. Usually.

But here's the thing - 99% of the time I get the incoming pirate attack warnings after I've already arrived. So now I'm thinking – maybe they were waiting for a calm, competent victim, and not the screaming moron who corkscrewed past the station at 50C, crashed out of FS, deployed his cargo scoop for no reason at all while performing a chaotic corkscrew, then barely avoided slamming into the nearby planet, twice.

Basically, am I secretly an idiot and a genius at the same time?

Do not support the paternalism and corruption of the Superpowers. Give the people of the Golconda a voice!

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 12:33 PM PST

The current Interstellar Initiative to bring relief to the stricken generation ship Golconda is inherently flawed. While noble in its intentions, on the surface at least, it ultimately does not serve the best interests of the Golconda and its people. Rather, it serves the interests (as most of these Initiatives do) of powerful politicians and oligarchs with their own concerns, who wish to use the Golcondans as pawns in their political games. Furthermore, the Initiative may very well violate the basic rights of the Golconda's inhabitants, including their right to self-determination.

Personally, I am curious as to why the welfare of a few thousand 22nd century humans interests those in positions of power, and yet they allow billions of their own citizens to suffer daily in war, famine, and outbreaks of deadly disease? Obviously there is more to this than meets the eye, and as usual, we aren't being given all available information.

This has been obvious from the very moment that the Golconda was discovered floating helplessly in Upaniklis system. It is believed that, while this call for assistance did in fact come from the crew of the ship, not everyone aboard was in agreement with this decision. It is entirely possible that the majority of the ship's inhabitants did not want to contact the outside world for fear of what such contact may bring, possibly their own demise. Messages in the ship's logs indicate as much.

The fact is that we simply don't know, but are being asked to act anyway. We are being asked to "help" a people that might not want our help at all. We are being asked to perform actions on behalf of governments we know we cannot trust to do the right thing, as all governments are inherently corrupt. Is there any governing body, for instance, to ensure that the supplies delivered actually end up in the hands of those they are intended for? What authority exists to ensure transparency and that this Initiative is completely free of corruption? I am not aware of any such oversight.

And in the end, until we are certain that the Golconda's people, and not just leadership, are in favor of opening their communications channels and cargo bay doors to the unpredictable 34th century and all its dangers, then we have a duty not to act. Allow them to hold a shipboard plebiscite and release the results to the galactic community. If a majority of Golcondans approve, then let the supplies flow. If not, then this Initiative must cease immediately.

But until such a plebiscite takes place, I will assume the Golcondans are not being given a choice in their own fate, which is a violation of these poor wretches' human rights. And this cannot go unanswered.

To that end, any vessel I encounter that I believe to be assisting in this goal will be given a warning and opportunity to high wake from the system. If the warning is ignored or rejected, said vessel is subject to destruction. Many CMDRs have already met this sad fate, and although I do not relish having to mete out such consequences, I will continue to do so.

And I must offer congratulations to those pilots with the skill and proper outfitting who were able to escape destruction at my hands over the past few days, and especially to those who forced me to retreat instead! You are proof that surviving in the hostile, open world of the Milky Way galaxy is indeed possible, even thrilling, if you know how...

    Snowman System

Found this system with a WO Wolf Rayet star, an O-type, and a B Supergiant, aligned nicely to make a not-so-little stellar snowman. Interestingly enough, the Wolf Rayet star was more massive than the other two stars put together, at a whopping 120 solar masses. The supergiant, not to be outdone, had a radius of about 2,000ls.
