Train 'em young - my 4yo making his first mining approach

One re-buy due to hitting the first piece of rock he saw: 12,000,000cr

Fines for deploying weapons and firing in a station: 300cr

Cost of fuel for randomly jumping around to different systems: nothing. I use a fuel-scoop, after all.

Profit made by successfully mining: 0cr

Getting to explore the galaxy while still practicing social-distancing: Priceless. Especially when every jump was accompanied by an enthusiastic "woohoooooo! Here we goooooooo!"

She's no fleet carrier, but she's mine and we're going on an adventure.

I present to you the "Pale Red Dot", an earth-like orbiting a class-L dwarf star, wich is very rare. It's only 26 Ls away from the star. Really worth the trip.

I can't wait to see how FDEV changes the Fleet Carriers.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 12:09 PM PDT

With the overwhelmingly negative out cry from the players, FDEV is going to have to change just about all aspects of the Carrier.

How much are they going to reduce the upkeep? 50%, 90%, or all of it?

How much are they going to reduce the spool up/cooldown time?

Are they going to change the Carrier from a 'Commodities' carrier to an actual Fleet Carrier? With Commodities an extra add on instead of a Shipyard.

Are they going to add UC?

Will they add a Captains chair that we can sit on while we are inside our own Carrier so we can watch ships coming and going and watch the cool jump animation?

Will they let NPC's buy and sell on our Carriers? If I put in a buy order for 10,000 tons of Tritium will they bring it and sell it to me?

Of course there are numerous other aspects that I haven't included here, but you get the point.

What I'm really worried about here is that FDEV has put the Carriers out with numbers so incredibly high, that to bring them down into anything even remotely reasonable, they will have to admit that they completely fucked up. Will they want to save face by only reducing the numbers by a little bit? How could they possibly not know that we would want to sit on the bridge of the Carrier? That's a no brainer.

Did they purposely make the numbers high so that they could reduce them drastically later on so that we would be happy about that one thing, so we wouldn't notice all the other things that are wrong?

I can't wait to see what happens during the second roll out of the Beta test. Are they going to completely redeem themselves, or are they going to shit the bed?!?

I don't have the money for a fleet carrier, and I'm 10,000Ly from the nearest station, so the debate is kind of off my radar. That said, with all its issues, this game still manages to impress.

Fleet Carriers would be amazing if your NPC crew could pilot our ships

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 08:37 AM PDT

It does make me wonder if allowing your NPC Crew to pilot your ships wasn't an intended feature at some point since you can have 3 of them, with you plus 3 NPCs filling a full Wing.

This obviously has some implications for PvP since people can now control a Wing of 3 NPC ships along with their own. I can't really think of a great way to balance this other than making the repercussions of attacking clean players while in a Wing have 2,3,4 times the Notoriety impact depending on how many are in your Wing. But it's not like C&P is a serious thing in Elite anyway.

You could potentially have a kind of a weighted limit to what your wing can be composed of. Like you could have 1 Cutter, Corvette or Anaconda and that's your limit. Or you could have 2 Kraits or Pythons. Or 3 Vultures or Eagles. Perhaps a point system where the max is 4 and the Big 3 are 4 Points, other larges/decent mediums are 3 points, low end mediums/good smalls are 2 points and other smalls are 1 point, so you have to build your wing within some limits to balance it out. You could even take this one step further and have your own ship be within this weighted limit (which would need a limit increase).

These would be limited to being docked at your FC and respawn there when they die. This is where it would be nice to have a smaller FC to make this feature more accessible for players with less money and fewer times to play during the week.

Aside from Combat, we should be able to use these Mining by telling your NPCs to look for rocks with certain contents. Or Exploration where you tell them to scan certain planets for you. Or trading where you have them buy certain things from a station or sell all their cargo to a certain station.

But you would have to move the FC from system to system and they can't hypercruise themselves maybe, which is why FC cooldown needs nerfed as well.

Just some random thoughts, I think having NPCs controlling your ships could definitely make the game more interesting if balanced properly, and give some more use to FCs as a home for them.
