The removal of Galnet makes the game feel lifeless.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 07:13 AM PDT

Checking galnet to see literally no news gives a strong impression that the game has been abandoned, even if it hasn't.

Surely Frontier can hire some part-time intern to write a couple of news stories every week. It can't be that expensive.

How many times did you forget Limpets before going out?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 12:31 AM PDT

    I HATE LIMPETS!!!

Why are they in the cargo? Why do you need to go to advanced maintenance to get them? Why are limpets generic rather than bound to their controllers? Why are limpets cargo (1 T each even) instead of an ammo type for the controllers?

    WHY!?

Anyone else miss long distance transport missions?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 04:29 AM PDT

Basically regular "transport these N tons of commodity A to station X" missions, but the destination stations would be in systems 50, 100 or more Ly away. This was also before FD nerfed Pilots Federation ranks to no longer grant access to better missions, and made it all based on local reputation alone. Before that, if you were Trade Elite, you would get the most juicy transport missions everywhere. It was the glorious golden era of transport missions. It wasn't even more profitable than they were today, just more fun and varied.

You could take a long distance transport job, fly through half the bubble, then get another job there, and so on, visiting different places and generally feeling more like an actual space trucker and less like a local courier.

Nowadays, you'd hop around the same dozen or so systems where you have some factions on high reputation, and as soon as any mission sends you slightly outside that area, all the missions turn to crap and you have to either grind up reputation slowly or just return to one of your systems where half a dozen factions are allied.

On a related note, small transport jobs seem to be mostly gone now, too. If I were to hop in my Cobra with like 16 tons of cargo space, even the smaller transport missions would be 3 or trips back and forth to haul the whole lot in small batches, exacerbating the experience of moving just between the same few places over and over again.

The non-server melting multiplayer godsend we're looking for

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 10:52 AM PDT

It's becoming obvious that fleet carriers aren't quite the multiplayer enabling craft that we need. A tool to be used for sure, but not for everyone and not for every situation.

    Here's what we REALLY need.

We need a way to play multiplayer properly. We need a convenient way to travel as a wing. We need the ability to interdict and be interdicted as a unit. An incentive to pair merchant vessels with an escort of fighters. A real reason to form fleets in the first place and have true wing gameplay. As it stands, if you interdict me in a T-9 and I decided to stand my ground and wait for my wing to back me up, I'd be dead before my 3 buddies in fighters can find my instance, there's no point flying together at all.

My suggestions involves no new vessels or assets, just let our ships lock in formation for supercruise and jumps, giving command of all ships to the leader, it would add so much. Players with little resources could still haul their friends somewhere as a unit. All ships would move together at the turn rate of the slowest ship and jump at the range of the shortest ranged ship.

It's just the start of an idea but it would solve a lot. I've lost 5 players I've introduced to the game to the mechanics of supercruise on their first try. It's certainly not as flashy as an FC but I'd wing up constantly if this existed!

Idea for two new types of SLV (ship launched vehicle) and a change in how Limpets work.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 02:17 AM PDT

Right now all we have is the SRV for driving on the surface of planets, and the SLFs that are used for combat.

I think it could be good to add in a few utility-oriented ship launched vehicles, and the ones I'm proposing are:

1 - Miner: a small fighter-like ship, armed with your choice of mining tools (any combination of mining tools available) without cargo or limpets (proposed changes to limpets down below).

2 - Lander: large ships can't land on outposts, so this one is meant as an extremely agile and small ship used to land on places without a large landing pad, or smaller places where a large ship can't enter. Again, without cargo.

    Limpet change:

Limpets, similarly to probes, become an automatic part of the ship. Instead of one-time use limpets you have to buy each time, each ship type has a number of limpets included in it, which as they are used they then return to the ship without needing to buy new ones. Number of limpets would vary with the ship. A sidewinder would only have one or two, while a cutter or conda would have 5-6 or more.

These new limpets can be used for a variety of task, but in relation to the proposed ships, they can:

1: as a mining SLV is deployed, the limpets follow it around (let's remove the proximity alert for them btw) and as it mines they collect the fragments and bring them back to the main ship to be processed in the refinery (main ship would automatically follow just outside the ring, and limpets would be made a lot faster). Prospector limpets are abandoned, now the pulse wave analyser has a secondary function of scanning asteroid when close enough.

2: once you land with a lander SLV, limpets are deployed on stand-by. As you buy, sell, load/unload cargo or make repairs, the limpets go to and from the outpost to allow the ship/outpost interaction.

    What do you think?
