Recent news:
Beta begins todayGreetings Commanders The Fleet Carriers Update beta begins today at 11:00 (UTC)! Although the beta will run much like the real game, we ask that you focus on testing all the changes, along with your standard gameplay, to ensure the stability of the build. This will help us to identify and find ways to fix as many issues as possible before the update goes live. As a reminder...
More information about the beta:
All issues should be reported to the (Beta) Issue Tracker directly, but if you have any questions, please let us know on this forum thread. Good luck on your mission, Commanders.
Guide - Participating in the Beta" forum postHere are the steps to access the Beta:
Does the beta affect the live game?
"Guide - Reporting a Bug" forum postf you encounter any bugs or issues go to the dedicated beta Issue Tracker section here (live now). What to look out for?
Reporting using the Issue TrackerWhen you go to the dedicated Issue Tracker (Beta) section, you will need to fill out information about the bug or issue you've encountered. Below is an example of how you fill this out: Step 1 - Your Report
Step 2 - Check
Step 3 - Details
Fill out the details of your machine.
Fill out any additional information.
Step 4 - Finish
It is extremely helpful for our team to get as much data as they can, this includes images, or even videos, along with detailed descriptions. You can also help by adding verbose logging to your game. Here is a guide on how to add the verbose logging lines into the appconfig:In order to tell Elite Dangerous to create a Netlog file you will need to perform the following steps: If you are currently playing the game please select Save and Exit to exit to the main menu. This will allow you to access the Network section of the Options menu. Open the Network options menu.
Please access your AppConfig.xml which be found in the projects folder where you installed the game and open this in Notepad. You'll see a block near the bottom named "Network". Please insert the following lines somewhere in that block - Any new network logs produced will now include more detail, which will help us with our investigation. Please attempt to recreate this issue in-game and then attach the corresponding network log so we can check it out.
Guide - Testing GuidelinesGreetings Commanders, Thank you for joining us in the first Fleet Carrier Update beta. Below, we've provided a number of guidelines to help you understand what we'd like from feedback around Fleet Carriers. If you encounter any bugs, please ensure that they're reported via the Issue Tracker here (live tomorrow). GuidelinesThroughout the beta, we'll need Commanders to acquire Fleet Carriers, but also use them as guests and visitors. It's really important that we have feedback on how it is to manage a Fleet Carrier, but also take advantage, as a guest, of the services that can be enabled on them. Fleet Carriers will shake up the galaxy, enabling players to create hubs and services like never before! We've split up the guidelines for two different groups: owners and visitors. Fleet Carrier OwnersFleet Carriers will cost 5,000,000,000 credits in this beta You will be able to purchase a Fleet Carrier at these stations:
Along with having fun with your new Fleet Carrier, we would also like you to try out specific aspects and provide feedback on them: Once you have your Fleet Carriers, we would like owners to try:
Fleet Carrier VisitorsAs we said above, Commanders who visit and use Fleet Carriers are just as important as the owners, we need you to test the services and make sure Fleet Carriers work for everyone in the galaxy. Below is a list of just some of the things that we would like you to do whilst experiencing these vast vessels:
Thank you for your participation and your feedback thus far. We cannot wait to see what you do with the long-awaited Fleet Carriers! As mentioned previously, we will also be looking to see if there are any additional issues that appear during gameplay during the beta. An issue can be an error, defect or fault, that causes a feature to not work as intended, so please add these to our dedicated Issue Tracker here (live now). [link] [comments]

A Stock Sidewinder Is Technically Faster Than The New Carriers Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:32 AM PDT New FCs can go 500ly/2hr which is 250ly/hr 250ly/hr ≈ 4.2ly/min A stock sidewinder can go 7.5ly/per jump, and jump to jump time with fsd cooldown is about 45sec Not to mention the sidewinder is free and you don't have to gather the fuel to make jumps Even if you factor in refueling times for the sidewinder at stations I don't think it would outweigh gathering speed of Tritium [link] [comments]

I think Fleet Carriers showed the real flaw in Elite Dangerous and it's not just upkeep costs. Posted: 07 Apr 2020 12:40 PM PDT Its the balance of ways to earn income. Fleet Carriers as they sit will make players a slave to LTDs to keep them up and running. I understand they aren't for all players and Fdev has to limit who has them by keeping costs high, but there should be more ways to earn enough for upkeep than just mining. You should be able to make a reasonably similar amount of income hunting Thargoids or exploring. [link] [comments]

Fleet Carriers Violate the Core Conceit of Elite Dangerous Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:05 PM PDT Like many of you I've been waiting to see Beta Fleet Carrier footage before passing judgement on Fleet Carriers as a meaningful addition to the game. After watching various first impression videos, I've come to the conclusion that Fleet Carriers are a giant disappointment, but not for the usual reasons I've seen. To explain my issue with FCs, I want to explain what I love about Elite Dangerous, the game's strengths, and what keeps me coming back after 1500 hours of playtime. This quote from Lee Hutchinson's Ars Technica 2015 review Mickey sums up my love for the game: "David Braben and his team at Frontier Developments have built the best, most immersive, most gripping 'you are flying a spaceship' experience I have ever played in the 30 years I've been playing video games. When I'm cruising in silence above the plane of a gas giant's rings, banking slowly and looking down for signs of pirates that I can drop down on and crush like the fist of an angry space-god, it doesn't matter that the game still isn't fully baked, because I am flying my own spaceship." Despite all our misgivings and problems with the game over the years, the one thing FDev consistently nails is the experience of being in your ship. SRVs, multicrew, SLFs...these are all significant features providing that signature "holy shit I'm actually doing this" feeling. More than the insanely high maintenance costs, the broken marketplaces, confusing modules (why would I own a shipyard when I have to buy at galactic averages), the long spin up and cool down jump times, I am stunned you can't pilot the fleet carrier. Why can't I see the inside? Why can't I command a bridge? Why can't I see the incredibly cool jump sequence from a cockpit or bridge? For the amount of time, effort, and investment I'm making into a FC, I should be able experience at least some of these things. FCs are no discernibly different than a plain old station, in that regard. Imagine using the SRV but without the undock/dock sequence, with the wheels popping out before you tear ass across a planet. Imagine using the SLFs but instead of boosting out through a gate you navigate a series of menus and interfaces. The effort and care FDev puts into the experience of "being in" a ship or SRV is so great, reliable, and impressive that the profit/loss simulator that is FCs seem made by a different developer altogether. The FCs miss that "holy shit I'm actually doing this" feeling that's so signature to Elite Dangerous. What is the experience FDev wants us to have while operating a FC? What is the feeling supposed to be? Are we meant to feel like office building managers staring at numbers, tables, P&L statements, and menus à la Eve Online? Where is the "I'm a goddamned space pilot and holy shit I'm actually doing this" feeling? [link] [comments]
Fleet Carrier Hyperspace jump on-board view Posted: 07 Apr 2020 08:38 AM PDT
Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:55 PM PDT Based on the prices in this post it would cost a one time fee of $3.3 Billion to move all 9 of those ships (9 also seems like a reasonable number of ships for a player who could be within reach of a fleet carrier). Each ship would take ~61 hours to move. Compare that to a fleet carrier which costs $5 Billion up front (currently) and would take ~85 hours and cost roughly $880 million in gas alone for a one way trip, nevermind at absolute minimum 1 week of upkeep costs.
