Grinding in Elite and why it shouldn't be a problem

Today I visited an unfounded planet, on my journey to leave the Inner Orion Spur, this is now my planet, I love it
“And to our right, you can see that space time has torn apart!”
Not as good as others maybe but this was the result of my first painite run where I did everything by myself (researching, finding the hotspot, prospecting, and mining) First time to fill the cargo hold too, took me a good 2 hours!
Made my first discoveries. They're little systems but it felt good to finally get my name on some.
After 68k Ly of traveling, half of my first long range journey is complete. Now I'll slowly head home. :)

I never realized space could make me feel claustrophobic. There's so many stars way too close!
Logged back into the game and got greeted by this. Any idea what these sounds could be?
I have finally achieved the first goal I set for myself when I started Elite. Her name is Sapphire Star
First trip outside the Bubble without turning back after 3kly. Stuff sure gets pretty.

Community Goal - Rare Goods Trade - Harold Duval Memorial Ceremony

Station: Oterma Station (Orbis Starport, large pads available, 175 Ls from main star, 163.42 Ly from Sol)
Objective: Deliver Ngadandari Fire Opals, Esuseku Caviar, Lavian Brandy and Kamitra Cigars
Time limit: 1st October 3306 @ 13:00 UTC

Description

The Imperial Palace will host a memorial ceremony to honour Harold Duval, for which rare commodities have been requested before Thursday 1st October. Ngadandari Fire Opals, Esuseku Caviar, Lavian Brandy and Kamitra Cigars should be delivered to Oterma Station in the Baal system, where the White Templars will transport them to Capitol after security vetting.

Commanders of the Pilots Federation will be assigned an Achenar system permit alongside financial rewards. To further encourage participation, Gutamaya Corporation will apply a discount of up to 25% for all ship purchases according to the amount of rare items provided.

The initiative begins on 24th of September 3306 and will run for one week. If the final targets for a campaign are met earlier than planned, it will end immediately.

To earn rewards you must sign up as an active participant before delivering Ngadandari Fire Opals, Esuseku Caviar, Lavian Brandy and Kamitra Cigars to Oterma Station in the Baal system.

Be aware that faction-state changes and other disruptive events can negatively impact markets and station services, and could prevent the initiative from running smoothly.

Ngadandari Fire Opals, 26,231 Cr/T: Napier Terminal in Ngadandari (Civilian Outpost, S/M pads only, 501,244 Ls from main star) - 12T (state: war)
Esuseku Caviar, 21,175 Cr/T: Savinykh Orbital in Esuseku (Orbis starport, S/M/L pads, 275 Ls from main star) - 10T (state: none)
Lavian Brandy, 22,771 Cr/T: Lave Station in Lave (Coriolis starport, S/M/L pads, 280 Ls from main star) - 24T (state:none)

State Funeral Held for Prince Harold Duval

Pilots Federation ALERT: For the attention of all Commanders

Rare commodities required by the Empire in the Baal system.

The state funeral of Prince Harold Duval has begun on Capitol. An official week of mourning has been declared throughout the Empire.

Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval opened the ceremony, delivering a eulogy for her half-brother. Princess Aisling Duval, Harold's daughter, was also in attendance but was too emotional to address the huge crowds.

Messages of condolence from across the galaxy were on holographic display, including from Alliance Prime Minister Edmund Mahon and Federal President Zachary Hudson. Even Hadrian Duval, the exiled leader of Nova Imperium, paid respects to his late uncle.

The body of the Prince, contained within a jewelled transparent casket, was paraded through the city by a company of Imperial Guard. It will remain in state for two weeks prior to internment in the Hall of Martyrs.

Grinding in Elite and why it shouldn't be a problem

I've been playing Elite for years now, but I still don't have all powerplay modules. I don't have all guardian tech and I haven't unlocked all engineers. The simple reason why is because I didn't feel like it. I see everyone complaining how they had to grind hours of mail missions for a vette, or how bounty hunting doesn't pay.

My only retort is that if you're not having fun you're already playing the game wrong. It shouldn't be about min-maxing credits per hour or spending hours grinding Dav's Hope. Sure, 2% better fsd range is great, but is it worth the grind? If you enjoy min-maxing, more power to you. I too have a edsy "wishlist", but the point shouldn't be rushing trough the game. You can explore tha galaxy in a diamondback scout. You can find elw with a 15y jump range. You can bounty hunt in a cobra or a viper (and you can take down elite npcs).

Is Elite a grindy game? Yes. Do you need to grind the meta? No.

Try A-rating a vulture, maybe overcharge the powerplant if you must have fsd and cargo hatch active, put some synthwave and clear a hazrez or a conflict zone. Take an aspx core mining. Rock a beacon with a keelback-piloted npc in a slf. Elite is beautiful without Grade 5 dirty tuned thrusters with drag drives in an 1.8bn cutter
