CMDRs, we need YOU to help restore justice to the Galaxy!

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:26 AM PST

CMDRs, we need YOU to help restore justice to the Galaxy!

Sick of being blown up in your unarmed Type-9 while delivering supplies at the community goal?

Sick of getting station rammed by the same toxic CMDR, who then trolls you in system chat?

Sick of getting blown up in your exploration ship at Farseer while delivering exploration data?

Then join the Interstellar Court of Pilot Rights ("ICPR") squadron today and fight back!

The ICPR is a squadron of like-minded CMDRs who want to restore justice and fair play to open. All CMDRs are welcome, regardless of skill level or style of play. While our primary mission is to fight back against the player-criminals who kill harmless, unarmed CMDRs at community goals and engineers, we have many players who do exploration, trading, mining and also have an active BGS faction. We are a highly active group of ex-PvE players who got sick and tried of being harassed in unfair fights by the many gankers and griefers that infest open play. Our goal is to make open a better place for PvE players who would like to conduct their PvE play in relative peace. We offer friendly PvP and engineering training, so you can join us on patrol and hunt down criminal CMDRs to get your revenge! We also offer escort services for traders and miners not affiliated with our squadron. Stop by our Discord today and see what we're all about.

Join today and fight for the good guys!

If you've run out of fuel...

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 02:21 PM PST

The fuel rats are understandably quite busy at the moment. To help them in this busy period please:

    1. Check your route line before you set out - if it turns from solid to dashed along the route, you're going to run out of fuel, unless you have a scoop and can scoop on the way. Plan to refuel as appropriate.
    2. Call the fuel rats as soon as you know you're in a system you can't refuel in, and cannot jump to one you can get more fuel from. Please don't try to supercruise to another system and don't wait until you're completely out and on emergency oxygen, as that reduces the chance you'll be successfully rescued.
    3. If you do call, please be patient and understand that there is a limit on rescue capacity, and therefore you may be asked to wait if all the rats or dispatch are busy dealing with other clients.

    Fly safe CMDR's.

To all the new commanders joining........PERSEVERE!

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 08:33 AM PST

To all the new players that have come to Elite Dangerous over the past few days and weeks I would like to give you an idea of why you should persevere with the games steep learning curve and unforgiving game mechanics if you are struggling.

To begin, I have been playing from the initial release way back in 2014. In those days there was no such thing as engineering or planetary landings, ED was all about trading and combat neither of which I was any good at. Every trade I tried either lost me money or only gave enough credits to refuel my poor little Sidewinder. If I was unfortunate enough to encounter NPC pirates all they had to say is 'boo' and I was facing the rebuy screen, but I persevered.

I started to do rare trade runs (are they still a thing?) and slowly built up my credits enough to buy a basic Cobra. I used this ship for a long time, trading, learning to dock at speed, maneuvering in a fight, bounty hunting etc, and did this all go without a hitch? Hell no! I slammed into space station walls, lost my cargo to NPC's and other players, been sliced and diced by the bounty I was chasing down and got cocky at flying until cocky became a red smear on ship hull or a station window. But I persevered.

I began to get better and eventually bought myself an Asp X and managed to kit it out for long range exploration with a jump range of about 37LY (pre-engineering, pre-Colonia) and decided to travel to Sag A* to see what was there. It took me a few weeks as I was also scanning the majority of systems but eventually got there and explored the surrounding systems for a few days. When it came time to return to the bubble I thought about just pressing the destruct button for a quick return but by then I had quite a few first discovered systems and probably a lot of cartographic data that would give a large payout so I started back. It took a while but I persevered.

The credits from this trip allowed me to buy new ships for other activities and to build up my credits so I can do the things I want to do in game.

    Since these early days of struggling to learn the game *puts on a Rutger Hauer accent* I have seen and done things you people wouldn't believe;

I have fought pirates in an un-engineered Cobra and had my ass handed to me. I have fought pirates in a fully engineered Mamba and have returned the compliment.

I have crossed the galaxy in a pre-buff engineered Anaconda, looked back at the Milky Way from Beagle Point and felt an actual physical unease in the pit of my stomach that I was so far from any populated planet.

I have driven across numerous planet surfaces, seen glorious sunsets and sunrises, fought skimmers, recovered escape pods and looted crashes.

I have smuggled restricted goods into stations and assassinated undesirables.

I have seen Thargoid ships attacking human ships and stations and have rescued people from them.

I have gone deep into the Formadine Rift and searched for Raxxla....... and so much more stuff over the past 6 years that it would fill a book,

All these memories will be lost, like tears in ra.....Er, no, hang on that's not it.

What I suppose I am trying to say is that the game is difficult to begin with but with a little perseverance it will reward you with some wonderful times and with Odyssey just around the corner giving us the chance to leave our ships so much more to add.

Is there a grind? Yes if you make one. Will it hold your hand? No it wont, you're old enough and ugly enough to do it on your own. Play the game as a passtime not as a 'gotta win' as there is no win in ED, it's a sandbox universe.

Now go and play in the sand!
