How would you feel about Elite adding cosmic events to the game?

    Posted: 27 May 2021 10:05 AM PDT

I've long wanted the universe of Elite to be a little more interesting. I think one way FDev could do this is by adding cosmic events, maybe on a monthly basis.

Once a month, there's a GalNet article about something that observatories have detected somewhere in the galaxy. They could be supernovas, star and planetary collisions, black holes ripping planets apart, etc. -- rare events that actually happen. There would be the location where the event is happening and when it's "predicted" to occur, to give players time to get there and witness it.

I think it would be cool to have something unique to witness in the game, and it could give more people a reason to get out into the black. I, for one, would love to see the galaxy of Elite actually change and evolve a little, and players could be there to witness it.

Played this game for about 3 months 6 years ago, after being hooked on the OG version in the 80s

My crappy laptop at the time could only just handle it, one evening I ran out of fuel, turned off my pc and never logged in again.

Fast forward to this morning, suddenly got the urge to explore... remembered I had an account many hours of downloading later I am back in my cobra exactly as I left her over half a decade ago

Much improved! Well done devs! Keep those improvements comin'

    Posted: 27 May 2021 04:39 AM PDT

Latest patch is a huge improvement, and much more consistent. Performance has been good - though I was one of the lucky ones (but no real clue as to why) and not abysmal performance, I am seeing steadier frame rates too. Had a really good few hours tonight.

With a few more patches like this, UI rethinks and polish to planetary tech (for the new planets and the old airless) and we will start to see this come to fruition and the positivity and reviews improve vastly!

EDIT: added the following to the original post so this is found more quickly and not buried in the comments

it is also worth noting that though I am seeing framerate stability improvement (99% of the time now I get 65-75fps @ 2560x1920 - set 75 limit to my monitor rate, using AMD RTX 6800 -not XT with everything on ultra) this release was NOT expected to be the cure-all to performance...

...In addition to the change list below, we would like to reassure you that we are aware of other concerns raised from our community, which aren't addressed in today's update.

We continue to investigate your concerns around performance, UI and Odyssey's planetary tech and will share information with you as soon as we have it.

In relation to performance we'd also like to note that today's update includes additional telemetry to allow us to better understand the performance issues experienced by players, which in turn will help us form our ongoing roadmap...

Full LONG patch notes here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-odyssey-update-1.578613/

If you are not seeing any improvements, it will be useful to compare by including your framerate ranges you are seeing, your screen resolution, card details and how much video memory it has).

EDIT 2: A scroll through of my settings and quick concourse walk though of current performance here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVQks7P7N0Q
