I pulled the monthly Average and Peak player numbers for Elite Dangerous on Steam. Then I charted them.

I remember seeing this during the kickstarter and chased it up again. Destructible Anaconda with visible interior. Not a broken promise but an early low-poly glimpse of what could have been if interiors were implemented on even a basic level.

I've been playing with ideas for a heavier SRV. This is half a wheel longer but can take 8t of cargo with the transport pod fitted. Other pods include gun turret, refinery, APC, Fuel Rescue, ice-cream van and Winnebago. Probably. Cab can be single, double or armoured. Behold my dodgy 3D efforts! o7

If you apply scope modification to your plasma pistol, your crosshair and your actual shell trajectory will be misaligned. The crosshair was elevated higher a little bit and you simply cannot aim for head properly.

The largest design flaw with Odyssey is the inability to remove mods once you apply them

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 01:20 AM PDT

I could sit here and spew off a laundry list of issues with Odyssey, but let's say for arguments sake you look past all of that and you still decide to upgrade your gear because you are having fun anyway. You spend all that time unlocking engineers, gathering the mats to upgrade to unlock mod slots, then finally apply some mods.

Extra reload speed seems a bit useless, I wish I could switch it out for something else

Well get rekt son, you need to start all over.

Honestly for me, this is one of the largest design flaws with the game and I wish more people would complain about it so they would do something about it. I think the problem is the majority of players either quit playing or haven't made it far enough to be an issue, but it's definitely a high level issue once you progress enough into your on foot gameplay.

There are two options I think could be used here:

Option A: Treat on foot weapon/suit mods like ship modules and let us remove and store them. Maybe they are specific to each weapon and you can't swap between them, or specific to each type (Kinetic, Plasma, Laser), or not specific at all. Obviously not specific at all is easier on the player but I could see why a mod that gives extra bullets to an AR-50 wouldn't give extra pew pew to a Laser Pistol.

Option B: The engineers who are able to apply certain mods are also able to delete those mods as well. Maybe you get all or some mats back? Honestly I would be fine getting no mats back as long as I have the option to delete mods without having to start all over. I think it would be a decent compromise.

I assume Option B would be fairly easy to implement especially if you don't get any mats back out of the process.

Frontier, please consider this for the sanity of the players who are actually playing your game.

Pilots beware! The Scriveners abandoned the Hesperus and are moving!

The article tells us that their Dredger ship has a range similar to modern fleet carriers. That's a ~500LY bubble around the Hesperus, waiting to be searched!

    How Odyssey is a lose/lose

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 10:55 AM PDT

So, in my opinion, the current path Frontier is on with the game is a lose/lose situation...

I play on console, but the majority of the audience plays this game on PC. The broken state of the game with the Odyssey update is already pushing away many people on the PC side. They pushed out the update WAY before it was ready. Now to keep the console launch on track, they have to take time away from fixing the PC version. At the same time, they can't completely do NOTHING, which also takes resources away from the console version.

Now, if you look at the specs for the Odyssey update on PC, you'll notice that the game has terrible performance even at the recommended specs. The console release is targeting the previous consoles with 9 year old obsolete hardware, which is FAR worse than the recommended specs.

As someone who has owned the One X since release, and the Series X soon after release, I'm not even SLIGHTLY interested in the low quality, dumbed down version that will be launching on consoles, and there is no plans for a native version for the current consoles. The game will become more demanding, and so they will have to make cutbacks in some areas to keep the performance, since they are targeting the EXACT same specs.

The update will be launching a year after the previous Xbox has stopped being manufactured and sold is just inexcusable. Current consoles are over 8x more capable than the old ones (assuming you discount the Series S, which is STILL better than the base last gen consoles). I feel like they are just wasting their time with the console version, since that hardware has long been obsolete, and isn't even being produced/sold anymore. It is LITERALLY obsolete in every sense right now, not to mention further down the road when the game actually launches on console.

In my opinion, this will make the game not even worth playing, especially since many people will have moved on to the new consoles, and have become used to newer, better looking/performing games, further decreasing demand for this on console. At this point, I feel like they should have just cancelled the console launch, and put all hand on deck and all resources towards the PC version, and making it the best they can. At some point in the future when they have gotten the game back on track, and the bugs worked out, they can focus on brining the update to the CURRENT consoles, and not old, obsolete, subpar hardware.

Currently, both sides of the community, console and PC are getting shafted, and opinions about Elite Dangerous and Frontier have reached an ALL TIME low. I don't see things getting any better by making the PC community have to wait for a console version I feel like many consoles players will be unhappy with, anyways.

Also, Frontier has the contract for the Jurassic World games, with the new JWE 2 coming out later this year, probably around the same time as the Odyssey console launch. I'm pretty sure they basically have all hands on deck preparing this game from a massive franchise for launch, and they have basically a skeleton crew working on Elite, which is leading to a lot of the issues. I HIGHLY doubt this game will launch in a broken, buggy state either, which just goes to show it not a matter of incompetence on Frontier's part, but a matter of how they prioritize thing's, and just shows how little they actually care about Elite.

As someone who also enjoyed the first JWE, it also showed that Frontier like to make things to the very minimum acceptable level, in terms of mechanics, and never go the extra mile. Everything looked great in that game, and there was lot to do, but every mechanic on its own was very shallow. I've noticed the same thing in Elite. It's a beautiful game with tons of systems, but many systems on their own are also quite shallow, or as they say, a mile wide and an inch deep. I have enjoyed both games, and not everything needs to be super complex, but I just wish theyd have expanded things, vs simply adding more.

Anyways, I'm starting to get off topic, so that's all I really have to say.

Is Odyssey going to kill Elite Dangerous?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 12:53 PM PDT

I've been seeing lots of YouTube videos and many people saying that because Odyssey has been a big failure, it is going to lead to the downfall of Elite and no more major updates, is this true? I'm really nervous and I don't want to see Elite die while not even reaching its full potential.
